Apple's January 27th Event

I'd love to be able to use this thing as a front-end/fancy remote for my home cinema. That would be lovely.

Yeah, if it was a device that you could integrate with your home it would be great. I'm also surprised there is no kind of camera on it, as it clearly looked like it would be ideal for a conferencing type device. Especially when you consider that the target market for it is most likely professionals, especially those who travel often or commute.

1024x768 res..just fits into 720p..that's enough for me.

*edit*..no it doesn't..doh.

Jeez, why on earth would they even bother with a 4:3 screen ratio these days? It would make sense for a brand new product that's going to sell HD TV shows and things to have 16:9 1280x720. That was a stupid decision IMHO.

Full specs are up now here.

Screen is 1024x768

mmm, 4:3 - curious choice surely but such a media focused device. My initial reaction I have to say is a no, doesn't do enough and I suspect a 2nd Gen will fix some of the missing features. For essentially £500 (16gb 3G) it's not full featured enough for me.

Interesting and very premium product.

I reserve the right to change my mind on using one though...

Looks like the iPhone aspect ratio. Not 4:3, but not quite 16:9 either.

Probably uses rectangular pixels like the plasma tv's.

or import them directly from your camera using the Apple Camera Connection Kit.

So it looks like you need to buy something extra instead of just supporting a camera connected over USB.

You have to wonder now if the iPhone has come to the end of its annual update path with the introduction with the iPad.

Lets face it. Its gonna be the iphone all over again with what it will need.
People will demand true gps, camera and all the other stuff we moaned about.

I think theres strong evidence of that with the lack of mention to the iPhone. Sure it wasn't hyped but still.
