I wear a full face helmet for commuting. Will get a MET Parachute for the summer this year though. I wear it because I like my teeth, and figure that if I was to fall it would be the bottom half of my face that would get hurt before the top of my head.

So I get some looks sometimes, doesn't bother me!

Had a good day at FOD yesterday! Didnt quite get the result i wanted, but times were tight and it was a track i aint ridden before.

Good to hear - it's a short track so any tiny mistale costs you a lot!

As long as you're happy, but it is however it does get a big LOL from me... and usually a point and giggle when I see your brethren doing the same in London streets.

As i said before, i only wear my helmet for downhill but i dont see the issue with people wearing them on road bikes. As i see it, it's normal for scooter riders to wear full face helmets (usually with full on visors and everything) so why shouldnt cyclists? On a proper road bike its fairly easy to maintain the same speed as a scooter.

Exactly, I spend quite a bit of time above 20mph, and sometimes above 30mph downhill. I don't like the idea of road rash on my face at that speed! However I am changing to a MET Parachute as it is slightly lighter and not so "hardcore" but still provides some facial protection.

Got myself another tasty Italian number, Wilier La Triestina 2010 which will be used for commuting in addition to another 2 commuting bikes I have. It joins the elite rank of my biking collection (the other 2 being the ones in the pics, Bianchi C2C 928 and ROI Dura Ace), with god knows how many other bikes I have in the garage!

My fave bikes (excuse the broken chest of drawers! Partner and I are purchasing a new place soon!)

Sorry mate, but the MET Parachute is about as useful as a Chocolate Teapot.
Scratch that, it's down right dangerous.

No chance I'd take that "protection" over a ****pot for example.
More so when youre on tarmac, if you stack it, that mouth "protection" is going to snap right off and impale your face.

Rather keep looking like a penis and use a "propper" full face helmet than that thing.

To backup my story

Everyone say Hi to my mate Andri (this was when we just started riding, and the Met Parachute sounded like a good idea to him at the time)

This was on a hard packed 4x track, good luck with the Tarmac ;)

Well, it just looks like a bad case of gravel rash to me (with maybe a wee bash on the nose?) Which has most likely happened after the initial impact where the helmet has broken up.
Looks to me like his face is just badly scratched so the helmet seems to have done it's job? but obviously i wasnt there and dont know what happened - which is why i was asking for some more info.

Interesting. I've heard lots of comments like: "If you crash with a Met Parachute on the guard will snap and impale your face!!11" but have never actually seen any evidence first hand. What kind of damage did your friend do there and what caused it? The main question I would be asking is would his injuries be less with a regular MTB helmet or a p**s pot?

How have I missed this post?

This photo is a couple of years old - I put new wheels (Mavic EN521 rims on XT hubs) and M595 disc brakes on it just before xmas. Never been off road on the new one yet - too old and lardy now! Only gets used for the odd cycle up and down Blackpool prom :-( Must get fitter!

And here is what it replaced - I can't quite bring myself to just throw it in the skip:-
