*** Official BioShock 2 Thread ***

Ive played it for about an hour and a half and have killed the first BS and the game seems pretty repetitive and very much like the first one. Going around collecting plasmids etc etc.

And for someone covered in all that metal you dont have much health!!!! The bloody splicers have more health than you do.

Overall not that impressed :(

It's very easy to loose all your health to start with. Once you get used to things it's a bit easier. Even fighting the little sisters.

Just got the spear gun which is cool. Also the insect swarm plasmid, enjoyed that in the first game.

I dont get why people keep having a dig at the graphics, i mean what do you expect from the ut2k4 engine anyways?

You mean unreal engine 3 for starters and you have obviously not played mass effect 2.

People deserve at least some graphics improvement over the original and for your info the UE3 is capable of some mind blowing graphics.

oh my mistake i never saw that it had been ported to the ut3 engine. originally it was on a modified v2

I didnt think they used UT3 engine.

I'm pretty sure it's the UT3 engine could be wrong though.

Maybe I'm a bit off with the seperate executable console port comment, but I still stand by this feeling console-ish despite that. It seems very simplistic in the menus and options.

I am not impressed with the 2 hours i have spent with it so far. This is an expansion pack of the first game not a fully fledged sequel. Some of the textures are really bad and the environments are low poly.

The environments feel re-hashed and not very distinctive. The gameplay is good but that is not enough for a sequel if other aspects such as graphics are not improved. The widescreen FOV is unacceptable considering it became such issue with the first game and was eventually patched. The mouse movement if anything feels worse than the first game. I need to search for the ini fix that helped with the first one.

As someone has said you do not get the feeling of playing a badass big daddy.

I would recommend the latest nVidia beta drivers as it is possible to force AA.

I've decided to lower the difficulty to EASY because anything higher and you end up being made mince meat out of by random splicers with pistols which rather sucks the fun out of being a diving suit wearing behemoth with a gun the size of the people you are fighting.

Have to say it's made the game more enjoyable now I don't have to duck and cover from every attack and constantly run away from everything because I'm out of health/eve/ammo.

Game still lacks any real atmosphere though.

What do people who are playing the game think about difficulty setting? I'll be starting tonight.

I used to play everything on hard but nowadays I'd far rather enjoy a game (usually Regular, or Medium or whatever) than painstakingly crawl through it and have to repeat every scene 'til you're sick of it, because of poorly- balanced AI. Several people have mentioned that it's too hard, is this the case?

I thought you'd be pretty sturdy as a Big Daddy!

Can any of you that bought retail confirm wether it binds to steam or not?

thanks :)

Nope, doesn’t seem to link to steam.

It does tell you that you have to make a crappy game for windows live account though. Not sure if you can get away with not doing so, the message said you had to else you couldn’t save progress so I did, but I think it was still possible to save when I wasn’t connected, so maybe it’s for achievements or something?

Why do peeps seem to think a game is poo if it is slighlty challenging and because they have played 100 other "Generic First person shooters TM" they have a right to never have their gaming skill challenged.

Health, Eve etc does run out quickly but can be replnished if you hunt around and think about its use.

Im playing on Medium.

It uses the Unreal 2.5 engine but it's heavily modified.

thats what i thought but i just looked it up and aparantly it was originally but they moved it to the unreal 3 engine.

BioShock is using the Unreal engine which has been massively modified by Irrational.

Originally BioShock was being built on an Irrational-modified version of the Unreal 2 Engine known as Vengeance. Since then it has been ported to Unreal 3.0 and has once again been heavily modified.

I tend to stick things in medium these days, I like to enjoy the game and don’t like the frustration of just trying hard parts again and again, as somebody else mentioned.

However I ended up sticking this on hard as the description for hard was something like, I’ve played lots of FPS, which I have….

Anyone know if you can adjust difficulty mid way through? Not that far into it so tempted to restart on medium otherwise.

in the menu there is an option for "adaptive training", i think this means if your finding it to hard it will get easier or vice versa.

Ah great, thanks.

I found the difficulty even on "Medium" to spoil the game slightly, I usually play games on medium so thought it would be fine, however you just take too much damage which really ruined the atmosphere for me. I mean yes I could probably have completed the game like that but it would have gotten seriously annoying.
