****Official Aliens vs Predator Thread****

Well ive just started playing it not far in at all, Currently playing as Predator and enjoying it so far. Will give full report once ive done all three species modes

Hmm, quite underwhelmed by this. I did get used to the controls in the demo and found it pretty good but really this game feels very old.

Survivor is a laugh but as said above, not much thought went into it, they really did marines vs mass aliens in the most basic way, no equipment or new ideas whatsoever. In fact its missing a lot the advances games have made.

My time spent on the game probably equals about 2 hours on the predator campaign, 4 hours multiplayer split over infestation, species team DM and survivor.

The predator campaign felt like a long tutorial with some nice set pieces yes but nothing original, it is very satisfying pulling off a nice shoulder cannon shot though :D

Infestation - There was only 1 alien for ages as we all gathered (Which theoretically should be fine) but this meant the alien got owned for ages, once there was about 3 aliens it turned fairly quickly but up until then we probably killed the single alien about 20 times!

Species team DM - This seems like it will fall victim to lack of players quite often and also people just choosing their favourite species which resulted in a game of 3 predators and 1 marine vs 4 predators. Again it was satisfying getting a decent kill but a lot of clunkiness really.

Survivor - Fairly good, Mausoleum seemed the better map as think I died most of the times on the other map from FF. Still its only good because its Aliens, if it was some random monster it would lose half of what it has going for it. Also noticed the framerate juttered a bit with 4 playing. And wtf at only 2 maps, unless you can unlock more thats just lazy.

I don't dislike the game, I do still like it but this is mainly due to it being AvP. One thing I was surprised at are the graphics. They aren't brilliant but the general lighting and enviroments look nice and the aliens look slightly improved over the demo I would say. They have nailed the predators technology as well, visually. But, it just feels like an old game with a (not fantastic) facelift.

Will play more this weekend and am sure will have some good games but thats down to the atmosphere rathing than the gameplay.

To any one who has done pred help :P SPOILERS....

Im in the refinery and im at the part were it says blow up thepipes to put the fire out and leave, Well a) i cannot see not freakin pipes b) wont let me jump onto any ledges c) do the aliens just re-spawn at this point too?

IIRC there should be two tunnels that are alight, the pipes are running along the ceiling of the tunnel itself. Its also possible only one tunnel has a pipe running along it.

Seriously who the **** tested this game. You're a marine you equip a sniper rifle and a pulse rifle. You get to a checkpoint and it swaps your sniper rifle for a shot gun.

Dissapearing equipment. Every time you get a section done it will swap the weapons out regardless of what you choose to carry.

Firstly, I’m a massive fan of the films and previous games; having started with Rebellion’s first release on my Atari Jaguar and then working through all the subsequent versions over the Playstation to PC (regardless of creator) – so my ‘review’ may be biased :D

I picked mine up from Tesco on the way home last night, a couple of quid dearer than Game, but for such a small saving, I thought “what the hell!”.
Started playing it, as I have always done with games (in an attempt to make them last longer), on hard as the Predator and oh my god….. I love it!

The graphics are fine, they’re on par with those of MAG, they certainly don’t distract you with ugliness, which is the feeling I get from some previous posts. As others have said the sound is spot on, you get all of the familiar movie effects done to a tee, and for the Predator at least; I think it totally helps with the immersion.

I have yet to try the Alien, Marine or multiplayer, but so far it’s a worthy purchase and has given me far more enjoyment than the single player campaign of MW2, not as jaw dropping though.

Anyone who enjoys the characters, you wont be disappointed.

I noticed that with the Predator, but it was disappearing med kits

Well i feel silly as i spotted the pipes thanks to above! Note to self playing at 3am when tired = fail of sight >.<

Still i mean unless the Marine/Alien campaign are gimped i cant see how this game isnt enjoyable to most!

me and my mate picked this up last night and watched aliens and eat loads of kfc in preperation, turned the lights off then headed onto live with a couple of other mates.

I was scepitcal to buy but VERY happy i have done. Deathmatch is always the game mode i wont ever use in a game, loner gaming just never appeals to me, so i knew the demo would be a rubbish represenation (excpet for the games when me and mates/random marines teamed up).

But after playing the full game i can say it is quite easily the most fun iv had in a game in long time, Predator hunt surprised me most by being the most tense of the game modes we tried, infestation was a good laugh aswell. No people glitching/nuke boosting/and most annoyingly of all - kd ratio whoring, so all in all a refreshing experience going back to a bit of old skool playing for the fun of the game rather than aiming for an imaginary progression (which i also love to do in MW2 etc, but it was nice change)
The survival element of the marines also resulted in a lot of team work and communication (and screams) between players over live in the games we had.

Think whether you like this game or not might depend on whether your open minded or deep down the reviews have put you off or you just dont want to like it, theres a lot of fun to be had here especially if u like the films and play with some mates. I cant say what its like playing without mates over live and just playing with randoms yet as iv not tried but i can still see it being fun, but maybe not quite as much (which for me is the same with any game)

The reason i find it 'gimped' is that the camaigns are too short. Just when you get really into it, it's over.

Also don't bother ih domination. You get your ass raped if your on the marine side. Some MP modes just seem so ubalanced.

How are people finding the matchmaking?

Was pretty disappointed last night, seem to wait quite a while to get into a 12 or 18 player match, then most people seemed to quit???

Games usually ended up with 5 or 6 players.

Also, when a match finishes, rather than loading a new map with the current players it just dumps you back to the lobby so you have to go through the whole process again.

I guess if you got a large party going then it wouldn't be as much of an issue, anything like that arranged on here? :)

I'm finding the marine campaign a decent length tbh. It's **** but a decent length.

Message me later if you want to try some MP games.

Not tried marine yet but a friend said its a decent length also. Shame the others aren't, I really enjoyed being the alien. What time will you be on later?

Pretty much whenever mate. Got a few things to do but not much.

Spikey the 6 player achieve requires 7 of us, if theres even 7 of us with the game :D

Just finished the marine campaign, it was ok. Badly needs co-op in this type of game. Took me quite a few hours but I kept stopping from boredom.

The melee button is just plain awkward. I wish more games would just use the cod analogue stick for melee.
