Spec me a derv

...because it's quite good all round? Or is it fashionable to hate 206s this week?

What? The 206 is bloody awful, probbaly one of the worst cars in the past 10 years. It's only saving grace - and thankfully for Peugeot it was one heck of a saving grace - is that as far as hatchbacks go it was very good looking.

Pray tell, why?

You pretty much need to have a spinal disfigurement to obtain a decent driving position because of the pedals. They are also unreliable and built with cheese. It's the worst car in it's market segment bar Korean rubbish.

Says who? Evo?

Driving position is the only real complaint with the car tbh.

Says... everyone? It's pretty universally accepted. Couple of my friends had them (Well, one still does) and the amount they were going wrong was just comical.

Not sure why Evo would cover reliability issues with small hatchbacks though, or was that a cheap atttempt at a dig to undermine my opinion?

my mums friend at work at had one of these

was always complaining about the electrics on them. She was back and forth from the garage with it all the time.

I certainly get the impression the 206 was very unreliable.

Do you own one?

Why dont you counter the argument with reasons why the 206 is a good car

I don't own one but I like to listen to a reasoned argument as to why it might be poor. You haven't really provided one.

In fact, I suspect your opinion is one you've proxied via fox and luckily for you, he's chimed in :p

Audi A3 TDI or Golf TDI, will probably be into the 100k mark on your budget, but that's fine, it'll be better than most french boxes with half the miles. As said in previous posts, one with a decent history would be even better. I'd rather spend 3k on a german derv with 150k on the clock than say a vauxhall with 50k any day of the week.
VW Boras are unloved and as such are much better value.

But they'll be higher mileage and probably more expensive in the long run.
Golfs at this price will have massive miles and will be older too.
Not necessarily a bad thing, but it makes it harder to find a good one.

I've had that opinion long before I even registered here and a Fox was still a little furry animal.

What about a proven poor reliability record, no driver appeal whatsoever and questionable quality makes a good car? Other than the looks...what is going for it?

The poor reliability that's already been reported here already, and can be found in numerous reviews aroud.

Driver appeal is something that makes a car "appeal" to a "driver". This can be performance, handling or something as simple as a decent seating position. The 206 has none of them.

The quality is questionable - actually its downright bad. The reliability is a strong indicator of this, but the general build quality - interior etc is very poor

How is that clutching at straws? You still havent come up with one reason to own a 206 over any other car.

So far Ive been thinking of getting another 306dturbo anyone got any other ideas?

Inc a picture of one, get it!

I dont really need the boot space and I know how big it is. Plus its a bit to big for me thats why I want a hatchback.

Included car pic has added boot space which doesn't detract from how awesome it is.

Well its come that point where I need a car thats does good mpg, has a nice amount of power, cheap to run, good looking, and the biggest thing that needs to fit in the boot is food shopping bags. A Toledo is too big for me and Id probably forget its got a boot on the back and hit someone. Any saloon at the moment is too big for me.

How about said hybrid genre:
