*** Supreme Commander 2 ***

I know this is not to the liking of hard core rts fans but is it ok for a noob like me :) something simple just to wind away the time ?

Thanks jay.

Yea Jay, it's not a bad game....it's very good in fact.
It's just that we've come to expect so much from Chris Taylor and IMO he hasn't delivered since TA.

You should check out the original SupCom (~£4 for the original and ~£7 for the expansion on well known sites) I suspect it'll have a bigger community after the "new and shiny" dust settles :)

You won't be dissapointed with either :)

Cheers buddy will check out the others you mention also :)

I'm actually enjoying it. Sorry...

But then I really liked Dawn of War 2 and thought that was an improvement over Dawn of War.

I like DoW2 better then original DoW, but not better then DoW with all expantions (adds way too much!). Would love DoW3 to be somewhere middle ground between the 2 :)

Slowly working my way through the campain for SC2. Struggling with Aeon campain, as i dont play well with squishy units lol. Mabe that will change once i get more of the tech tree/experimentals. Still having fun playing.

Ok, finally received it and got it installed. Got it from amazon pre-order and apparently there's a free map which came with it (w00t?).

First complaint: Where's jeremy soule? :( seems to be someone else covering the score for this one..

Heading into the Tutorial and Campaign missions now, see you on the other side

Fed up of William "Gaylord" Gauge, and his bemused faffing about..

Lol

The game doesnt have any feel of substance/soul to it..

Ah well..

Back to BFBC2

Toodles

I think Supreme Commander Lite best describes this game. Go for the full version.

Also I'll probably get flamed for this but SupCom:FA is superior to TA in almost every way apart from artistic design, as I personally like the darker, brutal feel of the TA universe. Anyone who says different has either not played both games properly, doesn't have a fast enough PC or is suffering from a little too much nostalgia.

EDIT: Also forgot to say, I miss the air construction units from TA, but I'm guessing there's a good reason why those were omitted from SupCom.

Finished the campaign last night. Got angry as hell that I couldn't even skip the credits but I guess that was purposely done as there is a cliffhanger sequence after the credits. If there is another 'expansion' on the way GPG and Taylor can simply GTFO.

I just found out last night that you can't even SAVE during a skirmish. Haven't tested it out yet but for crying out loud :/

Getting online is now bust since the latest patch, all hosts say "Unable to join game". But when you do join a game, the multiplay does grow on you.
Biggest complaints are the ganking use of gunships, but if you pump out AA land units or fighters you can quickly defuse these.
My major complaint is lack of units and large map size. I hope they release good mod support for the community otherwise most people will go back to Supcom:FA.

We need replay support to, the single best thing about SupCom was the ability to watch ALL the top ten players games.

Ok been playing this offline for some time now, and i must say being a huge Sup Com 1 fan, at the start i hated it, but then after about the first 10 missions i must say i love this game compared to the first.

I do miss the resource part of the game but i can live with that. I do love how you get into the action so much quicker and how experimentals are not end game tools now, it used to be a thought of a Fatboy strike fear into your heart now you can just spam rock tanks or something and boom its gone, abit of fear still happens when you see 5 however haha.

So overall i think this was a good progression for the game in total, better than just a remake of Sup Com 1 and getting even more complaints haha.

yeah the sheer number of tactical options available to you even in the first 5 mins is far an away better than the first.

The thing to remember that this is NOT FA or SupCom Vanilla, so all those inviable tactics like going only Navy are now viable.

From the get go you have the options:
  • Do I rush to develop infrastructure in the hope that I dont get comm rushed.
  • Do I go air and try to gunship rush
  • Do I go land and try to get MML's
  • Do I go sea at the risk of getting rushed.

Oh the possibilities.

I think this shapes to be a really great multi game and certainly fills the shoes of its predecessor.

Yeah I'm enjoying the various options you have, at the moment I tend to research rush as the ability to convert Energy to Mass is mega useful. Also means I can build my mecha Arty and pound the crap out of anything. I had 6 setup last night in a 3vs3 and was destroying their bases. They chucked about 15 experimentals at me and the arty took them out before they could get to me.

I had 2 players in 2v2 last night sending their 50+ gunship spam at me. My 50+ fighters and AA guns quickly eradicated the gunships, while my team mate sent his tank rush and wiped them out.
Once you get in the multiplayer, the game is addictive. They just need to fix the mp lobby, add a couple more units (stealthy snipers bots, strike bombers and rapid firing defence), and a mp scoreboard where you can see how many win/loss games you have played.
I noticed that the units have a leveller, does that work the same as the old Veterancy mod (ie. bigger health, better firepower & longer range with veterancy increase).

Yep, rts have become dumbed down for the consoles. The last, truly decent rts was Company of Heroes, but the last expansion release proved very disappointing. Relic did show glimpses of rts future with deformed terrain, strategic command technology trees and my favourite - cover behind objects. However, no other rts have runaway with this.
Lets hope rts does not die the same way as flight sims and adventure games.

RTS has truly become pants, everyone seems to want the same thing but every single RTS is moving in the opposite direction to that?

Remember this forum is unlikely to be a fair representation of the market. It's very unlikely they would change in this way unless their research led them to believe that it's what the market wants.

There is only one answer to the Holy Grail of RTS...
.. Supreme Commander + Company of Heroes + Star Wars = BEST RTS EVER!!!
