*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

:o :o

Well I don't know how much the sled weighs, being conservative and say 15kg, that's 415kg for 6 reps (I may have done more, I was too busy trying to push the weight! :p). How much does an F1 car weigh?

I should just go down to the gym one day not do silly amount of squats and give the leg press a go just for an ego massage! :D It's an easy exercise to be fair, and my legs are pretty strong.

Though I can see my squat over taking my deads soon, as they're really getting strong now! :o

About 600kg with driver iirc, but don't quote me on that :p.

A silly, silly question, I know... but with deadlifts you lift the weight with your legs and then bring your back/hips into a standing position before dropping your shoulders back, right? I'd rather ask a silly question then injure myself badly. :p

A water supply. Lots of digging trenches for pipes, laying concrete etc. Not too far from Khun Yuam if you know it. What sort of stuff are you doing?

Don't know it but that sounds like hard and worthy work!

I'm not doing anything quite so lofty, I'm just living in the village. If anything I'm exploiting their construction skills to build my gym.

Did weighted pullups this morning, they are hard! Was doing 7.5kg x 8, but I'm a long way off double bodyweight pullups, I only managed 25kg for 2!!

Yup. The initial movement is created by pushing with your legs (through your heels), then when you're able to "tuck" your knees under the bar you drive forward pushing your hips forward.

At no time should you be pulling with your arms/traps. It's possible to do this when it's light, but when it gets heavy it's not going to happen.

Your arms are there as anchor points onto the bar. Nothing more. They do however (as does your back) take the strain, and stretch the muscles so clearly they have a secondary involvement.

There's no need to really 'pop' the chest foward or shoulders back at the top of the movement. As FF says when it's heavy it doesn't happen. Also make sure you don't hyper-extend your back once the rep is completed there's no need.

Legs are feeling really tired from my leg workout last night and the 10 minutes of cardio i managed... haha
Back and bi's tonight, just been getting my working weights this week for starting on monday morning :)

Do you guys take rest weeks?

I'm thinking about taking a rest week every 6 to 8 weeks or so but not sure if this is too often and what not, advice please chaps? :)

My rest days are currently Sat/Sun and every two weeks or so i will take an extra day off but not sure if I should add a rest week instead, I'm confused.. :/

Most people do after a sustained period of constant working out each week, i.e 8 weeks not missing a workout to 1 week off just to allow your body to rest

Do you guys take rest weeks?

I personally don't but I know a few people that do.

I think it all depends on how you find recovery & how intense your workouts are. a lot of people like to come back feeling fresh and well rested. Which is good as it helps to lessen the risk of injury.

I personally can't do more than a few days off (if intensity is low) as I get cravings! During GVT though I welcome each rest day with open arms!

Listen to your body. Nothing worse than working out when you're tired & de-motivated.

Thats what I was thinking.

I think I am overthinking things, I don't feel overtrained so think I will just keep going as I am.

Many thanks guys.

I managed 400 kilos on a seated row last night and totally wrecked the cable to the point of the cable fraying lol. I was lucky it didn't snap or take the pulley wheel off tbh. I'll gets some pictures up when I can be arsed to put the new cable on, I hate fiddly jobs:(.

I didn't mean it like that ;)

Just to make them taxing enough for you I can imagine you needing a few hundred kilo hanging from you!

I know:).

Sadly the heavier I get the less wide grip pull ups I can do lol, I struggle with 10-15 kilos round my waist but 5x5 is manageable. When I was 19st I could really knock the reps out.
