Change to AHCI problem?

Ok here's the problem

Originally installed Win7 ultimate to my nice new shiny SSD in IDE mode.

When I do the registry tweak to change to AHCI I then reboot to BIOS and change to ACHI under the setting "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" on my GA-EX58-UD5.

So far so good...... but when I then save the change and boot it fails with a No BOOTMGR error !!!

Anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

All I can say m8 is 'are you doing the registry tweak correctly'? Because I did it and it worked for me.

Did you install the SSD with another hard drive in the system? If you did you're having similar problems to me when I installed a new hard drive, see here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=16106886#post16106886

Yep... I have another 2 x 750Gb Seagates in as well. Loaded Win7 to the SSD as the boot drive in IDE mode and I'm trying to changeover to AHCI.

Just a thought.... could it be the AHCI driver?

If you go to Disk Management is the SSD shown as Active?

Yes but your puter is using the MBR from another hard drive if you had other drives installed when you put Windows 7 on the SSD.

Go to Start and type 'Disk Management' in the search box and launch. I'm guessing only one of the drives will have 'Active' listed.

If that's the case you'll have to make the SSD active then shutdown the PC, disconnect the other hard drives and add an MBR to the new SSD by starting from the Windows DVD and repair it (I had to do this twice). It then booted from the new drive when it was selected as the first drive in the BIOS

Ok

I had to modify this key in regedit AS well

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV

the link to the microsoft knowledge base is shown below

I take it your problem was nothing to do with your SSD being active but just down to modifying the registry?

im having a problem aswell

i change the Registy

Navigate to Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
Set the "Start" value to 0 (zero)

then reboot and change bios to AHCI

but it gets stuck on loading windows ( 7 64bit )

??

you getting a error message

bootmgr missing
press alt-ctrl- del to continue?

use this link to repair your bcd. I used method 2 to get back into my Win7 Ultimate 64 bit

then note the advise above about the other registry entry that you may well have to change as well ie the IastorV key

PS. I note that you have a OCZ 30Gb SSD? I have a OCZ 100Gb LE perhaps it's a OCZ thing?
