*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

I wouldn't try front squatting on a smith mate, one of the exercises that is best done free weight or not at all. Smith squats place more emphasis on quads as it is and reduce glute recruitment.

Squatting in general shouldn't hit your hamstrings anywhooo.

I really hate the smiths, I wish they'd smash it and get a squat rack.

but oh well , romanian deadlifts and hamstring curls do the job.

Deeps squats should hit your hamstrings. :)

True, as it's simulating the thigh & torso position of a SLDL. Though depending on the volume of my leg workout (assuming it's a quad dominant one with no direct hamstring work) I wouldn't be too happy about the attention my hamstrings would receive. Unless it was high volume, deep with slow negs

You see I like hitting quads and hams and glutes during a leg workout, and a deep squat does all that in one hit!

I like hitting them all too, lots!

I like to squat to parralell as I get more glute involvement by not going quite so deep on a smith. If it was FW I'd go deeeeeeeeep.

SLDL to give my hamstrings a beasting.

And then burn out on heavy leg extensions to let my quads know who's boss!

Walking lunges to finish if I feel the need for further beasting!

Wish we didn't have such a **** leg press :(

Almost exact same routine except I throw in some hamstring curls aswell :)

It's a real pitty our leg press and leg extention machine have a max of 170 on them :(

hardly a challange now so I'm doing more more with one leg at a time on them.

Ah of course I forgot you had a smith :(

Makes me want to cry. Gym I did the KB workshop at had a squat rack and all I wanted to do was run over to it and squat!

Our leg press doesn't come down deep enough and stacks at 200KG. One at the gym at home can come nice and deep so might give it a second chance on Wednesday. It's still not a sled or plate loaded but better than nout.

First day back doing WSBB ME/DE and already ive busted it :D

Started off well doing sets of 3 dynamics with 60kg, red band and pink band then noticed i had a bit of an audience so took the bands off and did singles up to 155kg (beats what id call my current PB but not all time PB). Not sure whats changed but i was getting my set up perfect everytime, felt really tight and good quad drive, should be able to get back up to decent weight if my elbow holds.

Felt good to be doing real exercises again as well like JM presses and face pulls.

..Squat and Hamstrings??

Wide stance.. the wider the go, the more hammys you use, narrower, more quads. By the time you get to an elite level equipped powerlifter squatting out of a monolift, theres about as much quad involvement as a dumbell kickback on a swiss ball :)

If you really want to nuke your hammys, GHR all the way baby!

Sorry, Glute/Hamstring Raise.

No sound at work so sorry if its in spanish or something :)

Im lucky that i have access to the kind of bench he's using and resistance bands, but you can do them anywhere you can anchor your heels under and just hold a plate or db. They are deceptively hard but once you crack them nothing hits your hamstrings and glutes like them.

That actually looks like fun :D

Sadly the closest we have is a Hamstring Curl machine.

I'll have to figure something out for the summer at the folks' place. I really want to try that now.

The leg press and hamstring machine in my place are utter tosh.

I need to give Good Mornings a proper crack I think.

As Benny says, DB pull ins are awesome.

Then I'd hit heavy compounds too.

Weighted planks are good too, knee raises, leg raises work well as a final burn out.

Planks are something I use and knee raises too - glad to know I am doing it right!

Thank you FF and BennyC
