Ford Focus RS500

Looks great, i certainly wouldnt say no to one.

As for cost, i guess its justified by its rarity, only 500 being made for the european market and being a totally unique colour they will be easy to spot but hard to find. Should hold their value really well.

I think this 'trend' for taking hot hatches (this, Glof R) to close to 40K with a spec is an opportunity to loose money. The irony is some poeple will buy one, ***** another 10k-20K on 'stuff' more than likely and then wonder why it's still only work £20K when they come to sell it.

that thing is gawwwwwwwwwjus!

I saw this last week on the AutoSpy

I dont like the "500" Red Leather though.

I don't think it actually looks all that bad. However, I know that every chav scumbag up and down the country is going to want to own this, and it makes me want to stay a far away from it as possible!

or alternatively, like the bloke who bought the mint e30 M3, it will just be put in a garage somewhere and left to accumulate in value.

Then, just like a mint RS500 sierra is rare as hens teeth now, it will be wheeled out and sold, probably to another collector. One of the car collectors is on pistonheads, she has about 2 of every RS ford ever made all stowed away in car cacoons, still mint from the factory.

Sadly i fear with only 500 examples ,a large portion will end up in the hands of people like these :(

People buy the RS because its an RS, its a car that will grab attention wherever it goes, and draws compliment from young and old alike (see, we all have a little boy racer in us :P ).

For most, I believe its the prestige* of the RS rather than its all out performance.

*for want of a better word.

i think theres a mix. There are buyers like the collectors i mentioned earlier who will buy it because its an RS500, and never even drive the thing and just "collect" it. Then there are the drivers who like hot hatches and drive them because its fast. There are a large number of astra VXR owners on the VXR forums who have now bought an RS ( think theres at least 4 or 5 now) This sort of buyer definately would appreciate the extra speed 4x4 would offer, and (having come from a vxl) dont really give a damn about the ford RS heritage, and just want the hot hatch with the most power.

MrLOL. this RS500 cannot be confused at all with the homologation sierra from years ago. id be suprised if this car appreciated in value, its not much more than a bunch of badges, a dealship special from years ago

Looks fantastic IMO.

I can't be arsed to go through the whole FWD vs 4wd thing again, suffice to say that Ford flirted with 4wd during development and found the additional weight blunted the performance, and the car "didn't feel 'RS' enough"

According to Capito, director of the Focus RS project, the original design brief was for the Focus to be four-wheel-drive. However, when he got the chance to drive the first 280bhp prototype he was not impressed. The additional 150kg of the all-wheel-drive transmission blunted the performance of the car, and in Capito’s opinion it didn’t feel special enough to carry the ‘RS’ badge.

4wd would be boring anyway. you just gotta drive to the limits of the car, and feed the power in. The throttle isnt a on off switch, so i dont know why people keep going on about it.

you have to speculate to accumulate, i believe is the age old saying

Collectors are currently stocking up on Focus RS just in case they do become a collectors item 20/30 years down the line. I already recounted the case of one such collector on pistonheads who has just about every RS ford ever made, she ( !!) posted not long after the RS release that she'd bought two - one in Green one in White for her collection.

So even though you think it wont, collectors are buying and storing them just in case they do ;)
