So how good is Messi?

Ronaldinho at his very best is better than messi.

Problem is that Ronaldinho is no longer at his best;)...too lazy and too greedy for his own good...why do u think Barca got rid of him??...he was a waste of space and thought he was too good for the team.

Sure hes shown flashes of his old brilliance now and again and i do love him, one of my all time fave brazilian players but his arrogance has cost him a lot in recent years.

Messi is fantastic but I disagree with commentators trying to label him not only the best player at the moment but greatest of all time! That's bonkers.

In my opinion, Ronaldo in his prime was better than any current day players.

I personally think Messi is better than Ronaldinho was in his prime but also feel the former has a long, long way to go before you can mention him as on a par with Maradone or someone like Ronaldo (the real one!).

What counts against Ronaldinho for me is the fact he didn't stay at his peak for particularly long. Even now at Milan, he's hit and miss and struggles in the biggest of games. For all his excellent moves for us this season, he's done a lot of stupid things...like thinking he's Seedorf and completely slowing a good counter-attacking move down.

After tonights masterclass scoring 4 goals against Arsenal...i dont think anyone can disagree unless they are being silly that hes currently the best in the world....cant say hes the best of all time as he hasnt finished playing yet.

But at 22 what an awesome little player he is....and lolz at chelski trying to get him....he does have something like a £200+mill get out clause...id love to see Russkie get his chequebook out for that....that would nearly bankrupt the guy:p

Ronaldinho has a lot more talent than messi and is a better player (in his peak) than messi right now, problem is he never took advantage of it. Instead he let his social life rule is professional side.

when people try to compare a top player from today(messi, rooney, ronahldo) against players from years gone by, I don't think the comparison is fair.

Pele, best, maradonna, would fail miserably in todays fast paced game.

Agreed.

PS - Rooney is the best, period....! :p

arrogance?

also how is he greedy? im sure man city made a bid for him and he rejected it. why did barca get rid of ronaldo after he only played for them for a year? arguably one of the best strikers to have ever lived, do you not think they had the money to keep ronaldo there? they could have sold him for any reason just like how they sold ronaldo

i think you need to compare how much better the players were than their counterparts at the time of them playing.

so if you think maradona was 5 times better than the rest of the players in his prime, and messi is 3 times better than the players around him in his prime then you could say maradona was better, but yes it is diffucult to do any comparisons

Maradona would 'fail miserably' in today's fast paced game? I doubt it. Phil Neville, Emile Heskey and plenty of others have bagged themselves 50 caps for England in the modern game, certainly not miserable failures, and you honestly think Maradona is a long way below their calibre?
Not saying he would be as dominant but apart from anything else he'd be winning freekicks left right and centre for his team.

5live said it best tonight, there is no such thing as greatest of all time only greatest of this generation.

Fat Ronaldo still my favourite ever player. Unbelievable in his pomp

zidane gets my vote, as favourite ever player, he made it look so easy, with messi you can see he is trying his heart out, with zidane it was like ballet it looked elegant. he was also very strong, he wasnt the fastest but the way he used his skill to completely fool the other player that they stood frozen was immense and im not entirely sure but i would say he was against diving/cheating, unlike cristiano and co

He's the best in the world by a considerable margin. I actually agreed with something Wenger said.

Easier to come out with something like that on the back of four goals but I've always thought Messi had something more about him, even when Ronaldo was doing the business for United.

Incredible player. Amazing to think Barcelona were considering giving him some time off last year because he was out of form.
