So how good is Messi?

Aye.

What would you spend that much on?

You spend most of your time playing football, training or travelling for games?

Surely your other half couldn't spend that much?

Hookers...hookers and MOAR Hookers!!!! lol

God knows...i couldnt even find ways of spending a £100k a week let alone £570k a week...but i do know id be investing heavily for my kids and their kids futures...make sure all my family were sorted out ie living wise.

Would be pretty handy when you retire at 35 though!

Hmmm hes 22...so if he stays on what he is now...for arguements sake lets call it £30mill a yr...stays on that till hes 35 then retires....he will have made a grand total of £390mill in his whole career:eek:

Mind you thats if he stays on £30mill a yr and stays with Barca till the age of 35...i dont expect he will stay on £30mill and who knows he might end up retiring at a younger age if he gets injured etc etc.

Still thats a bloody good fortune to have amassed.

He willl still be paying some tax, even if its a lot lower than it would be here.

Including interest given the type of modest guy he appears, he could probably amass £250m including interest before he retires from the game. thats while still living very hansomely in a nice area of Barcelona (and several other houses also I would have thought)

Long may his chosen career continue

His earning potential won't stop there either. I'm sure he will still be getting sponsored commercially, even when he stops playing, particularly if he is labelled as best player ever by the end of his career.

He wont be taking all that home though will he...

I imagine he has a lot to pay out to his agents/pr people and god knows what else that deals with all paperwork that goes along with such lucrative sponsors/endorsements and getting them in the first place.

Best ever? Don't make me laugh. He hasn't even performed for Argentina yet so how can he be the "greatest ever"?

Players like Pele, Maradona, Fat Ronaldo are on a different planet to messi. imo.

Messi is the best player in the world for the last 2years and if he keeps this form going he might be the best player that ever played. I love watching him how he takes on 3 or 4 players on.

For me personally in order to be considered the 'best ever', players have to have consistently delivered the goods over an extended period (over 7 years at least). So you could include players like Zidane in that, but not Messi, or any player of his age.

I don't necessarily believe that you need to have won anything, or even done much on the international stage however. Although it helps.

There is nobody even close to matching some of the greatest goal scorers of all time playing today.
When he scores 9 in a game, when he breaks the 1000 pro goal mark, when he single handedly wins a Euro or world cup, then he can start to be called "one of the greatest players in history".

I saw a goal that Messi scored on SSN on Friday evening, he skipped past about 5 players and scored, it was simply breathtaking.

Zidane was my favourite ever player but consistent? Hardly! Nedved was more consistent imo

There's a reason why nobody is close to scoring 1000 goals these days. Defenders are better, fitter and stronger and tactics have improved. Put Messi up against some of the crap the likes of Romario and Pele came up against and he'd have more chance of scoring 9 goals in a game.

Brazilians play regional tournaments which are ****, hence how Ronaldo is still scoring loads despite being bigger than most rugby players, that's why Pele and Romario have mental scoring records.

Edit- not to mention the fact that the likes of Pele and Romario include friendly goals in their stats don't they?

Zidane was a top player delivering great performances and winning trophies over an extended period, that's what I mean by consistency. He wasn't great every match, nobody is, but he knew how to turn it on when playing in the big games, when it counted, winning Champions League, World Cup, Euro champs etc.

Not saying that Messi can't do the same, that's what we're waiting to see over the next 5 years.
