*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Yeah I now recognise it as a leg exercise, and a tough one. But I do legs on a Friday and Back on a Monday so don't want to have any DOMS starting the week in my back. Also your 50 squats, is that 10x5 or 5x10 or heck even 1x50 (I hope its not this :D )

Bah bunch of girls! :D :D :D

Today's leg session will render me useless tomorrow...

50 reps @ 100kg Front Squats
50 reps @ 180kg dead lifts
3x6 reps @ 350kg Leg press
1x6 reps @ 400kg " "
1x6 reps @ 450kg " "
3x10 reps @ 100kg calf raises

Ouchy!

Today:

0 reps @ 100kg Front Squats
0 reps @ 180kg dead lifts
0 reps @ 350kg Leg press
0 reps @ 400kg " "
0 reps @ 450kg " "
0 reps @ 100kg calf raises

Can easily bash out 16kg dumbell curls now although my hammers are still stuck on 14kg and can't quite manage 3 sets of 6reps. Aids!!!! :( SO all in all:

6 reps x 3 sets @ 16kg DB curls
6ish x 3 @ 14kg DB hammer curls
8 x 4 @ 90kg Shrugs
6 x 3 @ 20kg on assisted pull ups (hey hey I'm a heavy fat filled lank monster)
6 x 3 @ 65kg close gripp cable pulldown
6 x 3 @ 65kg seated cable row
6 x 3 @ 24kg DB bent over row

Not bad, and have until June 1st to crank it on up, then I'l go to x1 full body weights session a week and hit the spinning (twice weekly) and HIIT Ergo (1-2 a week) fat killing ready for August in France and LA in October :D

Anyone got any ideas of how I could somehow bodge a t-bar setup at my gym using just an oly bar?

The gym doesn't have a t-bar setup (obviously) and I fancy a change from BOR's. I've seen a guy bring in a proper attachment that he just screws onto the oly bar, but I dont really want to shell out any cash for it.

I tried wrapping a towel round the bar but it didn't really work as if I wrapped it round my wrists it squeezed the **** out of them, or if I just gripped the towel then my grip gives long before my back does which isn't really useful.

Won't need to withstand much weight, not more than 50kg for the first few weeks anyway.

Use the oly bar, corner of the wall (or put a DB at the bottom end), and use a V grip.
V grip as in one of these??

If so there isn't one of those at the gym :(. Like I said, it's a rubbish gym!

^^ As someone mentioned when I compared my leg workout to FF's, it's all relative buddy. 140x5 is still very good!

Managed to get a whopping 0 hours sleep last night :( How much is that going to **** up my leg recovery?

Couldn't you just grip the bar with one hand above the other as one of the guys at our gym does for t-bars? Just alternate the hands as if you were playing a very slow game of "one potato, two potato" as you go through the sets? It's obviously not ideal but it might be better than nothing.

Yea I could do it overhand like that, I was just a bit concerned that one side would take more of a punishing than the other but if I swap the hand position round each time I suppose it should be fairly even.

Yea the gym is rubbish, doesn't have any sort of cable machines so there's no attachments like that. Wish I was back at the uni gym :(

Yeah I use the potato method sometimes. Do you have any large plates with grab holes?

Sometimes I put one of those on the bar first, pack it out with smaller weights, then put some bigger ones on the end. Allows close grip in one hole, or wider with a hand in each and means you can pull it right in without bashing your chest or chin.

Been back at training one to twice a week. Uni and life commitments, been feeling extremely tired but motivated. So maintenance has been the key.

I woke up today with the intent to succeed. Not to break records but to succeed.

I squatted 140KG to failure, my legs were shaking but I was confident. I then smashed two personal bests. I remember it was the first time I hovered over 130KG. Since my last record at 160 last year I never went near that weight again.

I hit 170KG and 180KG raw this morning. Still weighing in at ~70KG.

I am humbled :)

Here's 170KG which felt more difficult but it just goes to show the psyche of the mind!

180KG

Great effort there Dark Shadow, are you still thinking about competing? The 180kg squat did look easier as you say, weird how one can have that mental plateau at a certain weight then once you're beyond it the next step seems almost trivial.

Bloody hell!

Impressive Dark Shadow, very impressive.

I've only got a smiths machine to squat with and I've hit a wall at 140. Can't seem to get over that.

But 180 squat?

Bloody hell! I only DL 170 at 68kg BW, my 140 squat looks rubbish now :(

Bloody hell that's awesome work! You're catching me up!! Well in fact you're ahead by miles in terms of power:weight  Rep was maybe a little fast, but it counts, so what the hell! You should compete. That's absolutely brutal strength for your weight. I bow down to you. I am in awe. Yet I feel proud :o

keep up the good work mate fantastic effort.
