Icelandic Volcanic Eruption - Significant Disruption to UK Flights

Update from NATS:

Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Thurs April 15, 20:20

The cloud of volcanic ash continues to cover much of the UK. Following a review of the latest Met Office information, NATS advises that restrictions will remain in place in UK controlled airspace until 1300 (UK time) tomorrow, Friday 16 April, at the earliest.

However, flights from Northern Ireland and the Western Isles of Scotland to and from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick may be allowed in the period from 0100 (UK time) to 1300 (UK time) tomorrow subject to individual co-ordination. North Atlantic traffic to and from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Prestwick and Belfast may also be allowed in the period.

We will review further Met Office information and at 0230 (UK time) tomorrow we will advise the arrangements that will be in place through to 1800 (UK time) tomorrow. However be aware that the situation cannot be said to be improving with any certainty as the forecast affected area appears to be closing in from east to west. We continue to work closely with airports, airlines, and the rest of Europe to understand and mitigate the implications of the volcanic eruption.

I assume this has been posted before...

So if I am reading that NATS report properly they are reporting at 2am tomorrow morning and what they say will be in place until 1800 hours Friday?

Correct. They will constantly review the situation but it's unlikely to improve over the next 24-48 hours.

*conspiracy theory*

Methinks that the powers that be had the planes grounded on purpose so no one could hijack a plane and fly it into the ITV studios when all the party leaders were there

*end conspiracy theory*

:D

well I'm home lol
nothing moving at work, it all going by trucks(DHL have an extra 70 trucks booked to move there freight to and from Europe)
its looking like tomorrow my be the same too

I doubt anybody commercial will be flying tommorow, best to be safe than sorry, as for that image of the plume it's probably way out of date now :p and more futher spread

I cant see it lasting that long?

Restrictions on the airspace around BFS have been lifted between 0100 and 1300. Predictions on what will happen after1300 are hard ot make as the forecasts aren't particularly accurate after that. I'm not sure about Newcastle though. Flights to EDI and GLA from BFS should be going ahead. If flights to Newcastle are going before 1300 tomorrow, try to get on an earlier flight. The volcanic ash may well make its way back into that airspace again later tomorrow.
