***The Official Forza Motorsport 3 Thread***

fixed for the truth... :D:D:D

I've just splashed out on them myself and am awaiting delivery...

Money well spent my friend, specially with the new firmware its the best wheel on the market....
Easy to justify add the price of a G27 and X360 wheel together which still isnt as good!

2 more consoles and 3 monitors youll be laughing..... :)

How you for mounting your wheel?

I've got a nice deep corner desk setup with a 28" monitor about 2 feet at the back of it, it's the perfect height etc for a wheel, and so will just employ the desk clamp..

If I was going to do the 3 xbox's etc, I'd probably do a projector setup, 3 cheap 720p projectors to get that seemless blending, but alas, no real room to do it!

For those suffering with the brakes you could always try pumping them very quickly for a semi-abs effect. I'm using the pad and that's the only way I've found to work in the R1 championship and still giving me some control into the corners and can be effective on the throttle as you come out of a tight corner to stop from going backwards on the exit, you just have to not use the full travel of the trigger.
Only downside is it can make your hands cramp up after 3 or 4 of the longer races on the trot ;)

The Fanatec clamping system is a bit naf tbh.
Not sure youd drill holes to allow proper hard mounting on your desk.
If not then Id deffo recommend you order the wheel clamp as well. Its solid and easily allows the wheel to clamp to a desk. Im for using one of these on my current cockpit project.

As for 3xprojectors, it isnt perfect, yes no screen borders but every projector/bulb has slightly varying brightness/contrast and this changes with the bulbs aging as well. It takes quite a bit of calibrating to have each screen as a good match to the others. FM3 triple screen mode also has very specific seating and position requirements to ensure the screens align. Basically your eyes have to be almost in line with the edges of the outer monitors, so you have to sit close and be at a central eye level height for it to be at its best regards proper aligment across 3 screens. It is brill though when its all set up and well worth considering particular as monitors and 2nd hand consoles are very affordable now.

Purchased this game the other day and I am very impressed so far. Easy to get into and in my opinion quite balanced when racing the AI. I have not delved much into tuning yet but have a quite awesome Alpha Romeo in Mettalic black with blacked out windows.

Had a few races 'round the 'ring with my mate last night, fun times.

I am going to spend all day tomorrow, after cleaning the house, to design some decals..Might even have a blast in a bit.

10/10 so far from me.

R3 races are amazing!!! just got to my first lot (season 4), man with traction/stability off you really have to work hard and nugde the accelerator gently out of corners else your in a drift , havent ever raced so seriously in a game ever (including gt)

excellent stuff.

problem i have now is that i can only do a month at a time else i tend to get a little bored as the race lengths are getting to around 8 laps now. pain in the arse.

What does everyone think of the medium and hard difficulty levels?

I haven't been playing long, at level 5 right now. I play at medium with all assists off, AT, max damage, and i find the game really easy. If i switch to hard, then i have almost no chance of finishing in the top few. Turning on assists etc doesnt help. I'm stuck between difficulties! :(

I would put it on hard and just learn the tracks. If you are struggling on a certain race then just put it on free run on that track and race your own ghost. You will be amazed how much time you can know off when you know a track well.

Don't be tempted to over tune your cars so they dominate the opposition though. You'll get much more enjoyment out of it if you keep things fair and rely on skill rather than having a much better car.

I've just done a couple of races with a wheel I got for £10 on ebay. I love the feel of the steering - so much more sensitive. Pedals are OK too, though it'll take a bit of time for me to get the hang of co-ordinating my body for it. I had a go with manual shifting too (no clutch mind you) and found it quite hard - I kept tapping the brake pedal when wanting to downshift! I'd also forget and find myself pounding along hitting the rev limiter in second gear...

Still, it should be good once I get to grips with it. I don't know that I'll use it for every race, particularly at higher classes, but I reckon I'll definitely get £10 worth of fun out of it.

I found with the wheel, for myself its better to just turn all driver aids off and use manual gears. Its quite difficult for the first few races but after a while you'll get the hang of it and I find it much more enjoyable even in the smaller E F classes etc. I've tried it with the clutch but couldn't get used to using a button so thats the only 'aid' I have on.

Good luck and happy racing!

If you don't get this done by tonight, I'll buy at around ten. Could do with selling a vinyl group or tune myself, so will put one up for you to return the favour.

Someone has already bought my tuning setup and there's been a bid on my auction, so i'm done. Thanks to the buyer/bidder!

If anyone needs something bought, just leave your info here for me to find.

I bought myself a 2nd hand wheel yesterday from my local Indi for 48 quids, There was one in Gamestation for 45 quids but it felt floppy where as the one I got for 48 is Mint.
I have been pondering a wheel purchase for about 3 weeks & finally bit the bullit.
What can I say, I should have got one when I got my X box as it's added so much as far as involvement & enjoyment to my Racing. I played for hours yesterday Happily trying to get my times back down to where they were with a controller, I failed.
I am quite a bit slower with the wheel at the mo but don't care at all as the feel & involvement is sublime. I honestly don't know why i am slower as holding your lines is a breeze with the wheel & I Know I am driving better with the wheel. I'll get there & I will enjoy every single minute of Track time.

I'm a lot slower with the wheel because my cars seem to handle completely differently then they did when I was using a controller. I thought I'd tuned my 911 GT3 RS to be quite stable but using a wheel it's very tail happy and I spend a lot of the time going backwards into a gravel trap!

holding your lines is a breeze with the wheel

That's the thing I've found, even with the £10 piece of crap wheel I picked up. Going round the banked curves on Sunset Peninsula was a chore with a controller, because I couldn't hold a gentle steer and kept having to hit full lock on and off to roughly maintain a line. With the wheel you can just gently turn the wheel to the right angle and the car just glides round. It's brilliant.
