Matador fights for his life after being gored by a bull

Can't say the bull fighting appeals to me but in the same instance it doesn't bother me that much either. The bulls that are picked for "fights" live a lavish lifestyle up to the day of the fight. Traditionally, if the bull wins, then it is let free, but no doubt these days things are different.

I don't support it, but I'm not vehemently against it. Still, if you're going to go into a ring with a bull, then you take your chances with you. Good on the bull for winning that round. :)

This +1...more or less sums up my feelings on the subject of bullfighting.

i don't really support bullfighting, but i find it slightly hypocritical be totally against it but still eat meat. the bulls that are killed in fights (and evidently in this case they are fights, not slaughter) live a much better life than those in the meat industry. how can you ban bullfighting but still kill millions of animals for the mass supermarket in arguably equally cruel ways? i am a not a vegetarian by the way.

as for cultural experience, stoning people is in some places, I wouldn't do that either :P

See now I am very different from you because I simply can't make blanket statements like that. For instance if the person was a guy guilty of the serial rape of small children, you're damn right I would take part in the stoning :)

killing of anything for fun or entertainment is wrong really, even more so when they 'tamper' the bulls to make it less able to defend itself, not that it has much of a chance anyway :/

Because stoning humans is the same as bullfighting.

The sport certainly has changed a lot, however there is a lot of sensationalism either way (both pro and against it). Those that find it cowardly, I'd be interested to see how you'd fair in there! I don't think it's as easy as you think.

Again, I'm not defending it, just trying to offer a little bit of balance to the "OMG he's such a coward, hope he dies, lol" sort of reaction.

My argument isn't particularly that it is easy, my reasoning for saying it is somewhat cowardly is that the bullfighter has the odds stacked so heavily in his favour. If your "sport" is one where the opponent may be hamstrung/drugged before you step into the arena then I'd suggest the show of bravery is largely that - a show. Of course things can go wrong and bull fighters will be injured or even killed but that's a relatively rare event.

If a bullfighter wants my respect (albeit none know or care who I am) then he can step into the arena like Mas Oyama - no weapons, untampered with bulls and fight them with his bare hands. I still don't like it but I can respect that as someone who is challenging on roughly fair terms and not with a team of people who weaken the bull from comparative safety while attempting to make it look like a spectacle.

I guess one of my biggest problems with it is the whole issue of it being with a participant who either doesn't want to be there or cannot give their informed consent. That just makes a matador (or picador, or banderillero) a bully in my eyes - this is also one of the reasons why I've got no particular issues with boxing/MMA etc, if people willingly want to put themselves into a situation where they're liable to get hurt then that's fair enough but I can't abide it where both participants don't have the chance to refuse the contest.

i challenge you to a weight lifting duel

i give your traquilisers and slash a tendon in your arm, i then don a stupid bright costume and laugh as i easily beat you, if im unlucky i might pull a muscle

thats basicly bull fighting in your world

It's not nice what happened to him - but the 'sport' is extremely barbaric and I loathe how the Spanish use 'it's tradition' as a crutch to keep it going.

Much like how our resident Tory toffs keep harping on about fox hunting being a part of tradition therefore totally justified. Yeah, great logic there pal.

The mass-butchered animals are killed humanely. Not crippled then bullied in front of hordes of screaming thugs.

Because stoning humans is the same as bullfighting.

Both are inhumane.
