Woo, just finished season 5 - R2. I did most of the races with the Lexus Eneos, which was absolutely beautiful to drive once I upgraded it a bit to give it some speed. I'd started out trying with the Koenigsegg CC GT, but it just slid around everywhere in the corners, probably because of the mid-engine. The Lexus steered like an absolute dream, just gliding round the corners. I still used the Koenigsegg for Le Mans though, because the Lexus wouldn't go much above 180, while the Koenigsegg could hit about 210 on the long straights, which makes a lot of difference. I loved the final race - the full circuit on Mugello Airfield. I'd only played one of the shorter configurations on there so far, and the whole course is brilliant! I also really enjoyed doing some longer races, trying to beat my previous lap time each time round.
I had to keep traction control on to stand a chance, which feels a bit rubbish, but without it I just couldn't control the cars coming out of the corners. I'd have to turn the corner and then pretty much stop before I started accelerating again, or I'd just massively oversteer and hit the wall or just sit sideways in everyone's way. It's hard enough going in a straight line, when clipping a rumble strip wrong at 120 sends you miles off course, without corners being impossible too. I also kept the braking line on, as I couldn't cope at the higher speeds without it. I am learning to cope without it in the lower classes though, if I put my mind to it. I'm finding the braking easier since watching a hired driver and having some epiphany about braking gently instead of just slamming on and off and skidding to a halt - goodness knows how that hadn't occurred to me yet. There's definitely a balance to be struck though, as it's still hard to brake late enough to not just get outbraked by the opponents.
I did find by the end of R2 that the races were too easy with TCS and braking line on and massively too hard with them off. Maybe I just need more practise. I could probably get to grips with having no braking line, though I doubt I could ever give up TCS with the massively powered RWD cars.
I've only got 4 more achievements to do now... I need to sell a design, finish season 6, get gold on everything (time consuming, but do-able, particularly if I hire drivers for some of the races I don't like - hello Amalfi and Positano) and get 100,000 drift points. I've no idea how I'll get that drift one, as I suck at drifting. Must practise...
