Anyone else NOT voting today?

Does it not concern you that despite your displeasure with it all, when all is said and done and the statistics are presented you will not be lumped in with those who showed their displeasure but instead the group populated by the sort of people who didn't vote because doing anything more than walking to the phone to order a Dominos is too much effort?

You mean me caring about getting pigeonholed into a certain group by a blond bird reading statistics into a camera, followed by an add break for toilet paper before they move on to pictures of Sam Cameron waving at a camera? No, not really.

Congrats, you've picked four definitions that include reference to humour. That still does not mean that all irony must be humorous for it to be labelled as ironic.
Taking the top four definitions from the OED, one can assume humour is inferred. We can have a discussion about English in another thread if you'd like.

If you're happy to be viewed as lazy then I really don't know what else to say.

You complain that the system is all wrong and has left you disenfranchised yet you refuse to do the one small act to actually effectively voice this opinion, instead choosing to align yourself with people who are just downright bone idle.

I really can't fathom it.

It's ironic isn't it (thank you Robbie G); regulus is acting all self-righteous and wounded with the system, which he continues to perpetuate by being lazy.

Anyway, I've been convinced to go and spoil my ballot card tonight so congratulations all you people on your soapbox!
E-Hug.

I don't 'align' myself with anyone. I do not care what anyone else does or what arbitrary box I get dumped into by media.

Why do you keep banging on people not voting being lazy?. Can you take a minute to change your mindset and stop seeing everyone's actions through your view of the world.

I see people getting up at 5am to sardine themselves into trains and giving a good 12 hour day at work and yet not voting. It would've been the easiest thing for me (or anyone) to ring in to work and moan about polling line queue's and NOT going in to work, yet I did go in. Many people did.

The last thing I can say to you before we go round and round is that not everyone has your view of the world. I think politico's are scum that is only interested in feathering their own nests. Had the expenses scandal not broke, how would it have made a difference who I voted for? Men and women in suits, regardless of party affiliation was still stealing my tax money without remorse. If you so believe they have your best interests at heart, I can only hope you wake up one day sooner rather than later.

Spoiling my ballot would indicate I took this nonsense serious enough to go into a station. I don't.

Now if you would excuse me, I need to get to get back to work.

I can see debating with self-righteous people was a good waste of a lunch break.

And yet if you, and everyone like you, stopped thinking of yourself for five minutes, got yourself to a polling station or voted by proxy, you could actually help effect change. Make society better. Make life better. Man, thats a horrible waste of five minutes.

In a debate you'd give at least one good reason why you can't be bothered to vote.

I'm casting my vote via proxy :)

There is no excuse not to vote, yes you may not like any of the parties or candidates but at least turn up and scribble something and get a rejected vote. Doing any less is a bit pathetic really.

Of course there's an excuse not to vote. It's the "**** it" excuse. Anyone that get's riled up about people not voting... **** em'. I'd much rather have the system fail and all out chaos and disorder reign, than vote.

Whether you choose to or not, by not turning out you do align yourself with a group, a group more often than not populated by people who are just lazy. There is nothing to distinguish your reasoning from that of a man who just stayed in bed all day eating leftovers. And it's not just to do with the media, a massive proportion of people who are clearly and vocally upset with the system will have far more of an impact on the political system than people who effectively say nothing at all.

You say you don't 'take this nonsense seriously' yet you've felt the need to post your viewpoint and try and defend it several times now which indicates you clearly do care about these things.

I can fully appreciate people have a different view of the world to me, after all that is the entire of having an election at all, what I cannot understand is the mentality that leads someone who has issues with the system to just 'not bothering' rather than explicitly registering your displeasure.

I've seen nothing posted here yet that adequately explains why not even turning up is a better option than spoiling a ballot.

For those not going to vote 'nothing worth voting for' etc...

At least go along to your polling station and 'spoil' your ballot paper.

This way, they know people are physically going to vote, but there's nothing worth voting for.

+1

The least I would recommend doing, for those who hate everyone/don't care/can't be bothered.
