LOST..... How do you think it will end

If I could make up my own alternate life where I am happy i.e. the flash-sideways, I don't think I would choose to get shot (Sun) in that life, what kinda perfect life is that :S And Kate still being on the run, Sawyer's mother still got murdered..this is an ideal afterlife they came up with?? :S Feels like the writers changed their minds at the last second, could have done the alternate timelines converging thing but chose the 'they're all dead!' thing instead..just to confuse us more :/

I'd have been quite happy if it was merely an alternative timeline and the finale was a collapsing of two timelines together, so all those who had died weren't actually dead. Desmond being key as he had awareness in both (which we saw from the previous season where he jumped around time and was aware), they'd be some epic battle/resolution of the smoke monster issue and perhaps one of them would have decided to stay on the Island.
Basically I'd have preferred it tied back in to it's sci fi origin rather than becoming a soap.

Yes because "alternate timelines" has never been used as a cop out ever...

I mean an alternate timeline which collapses allowing everyone that was dead to be alive again...how does that sound remotely good to you? Oh wait I missed the big boss fight against the smoke monster. And one of them did decide to stay on the island! (well two)

It wasn't an alternate life where they were happy, it was an place where they could all find each other, so the events had to occur for that to happen, Sayid saving Jin, Sun getting shot to meet Juliet, etc, etc.

It would have been less of a cop out than the ending we got, it's not like they hadn't jumped through time plenty already, merging timelines wouldn't exactly have been the step too far that made you go "Now this is just ridiculous".
An alternate timeline where they have memories from both sounds pretty good to me, it tells you that everything that happened still mattered while not making a mockery of the deaths of previous characters as the ending we got did.
And the bits that were in the real ending I described for completeness, I'm quite aware of what happened, I just watched the episode again.

Jesus, I leave the thread for four hours and it gets put into a loop again! Every question that everyone is asking and every complaint everyone is making is just a repeat of what happened a few pages back!

ALL EVENTS THAT OCCUR ON THE ISLAND, BEFORE THE ISLAND AND AFTER THE ISLAND WERE REAL.

THE ONLY THING THAT WASN'T "REAL" WAS THE ALT TIMELINE IN SEASON SIX.

The alt timeline was a place not governed by our rules of time and space. A place created for people to re-create the most important connections in their lives before passing on. The reason some people aren't there is because they either already passed on, or are repenting their sins, or are with a different group of people who are more important to them then our losties in their own purgatory area.

How did it make a mockery of their deaths?

Look back at all the people who died, the circumstances and explanations given at the time, there is no nobility in needless sacrifice. A lot of what was made out to be important actually wasn't, I just feel a lot of the deaths were wasteful with the story they ended up telling, and didn't actually add to it.

Indeed. There were quite a few that weren't there in the church at the end.

Mr Eko because he came to terms with his life while still alive so had presumably passed on
Faraday, Miles, Charlotte, Ana Lucia, Eloise, Widmore, Ben (feel free to add anyone i missed) didn't enter the church at the end. But for instance with Faraday and Charlotte meeting, you can see that they will remember and pass on eventually. They all still have their own demons to come to terms with.

Ben being the obvious example, who has resolved his issue about killing Locke and is still working out his inner demons with Danielle and Alex, i imagine once that's done (presumably after becoming a father and family man with Rosseau and Alex, he will eventually pass on after resolving those issues as he caused them both harm and torment in life and being a failure as a father.

What nobility is there in death in real life? Not everyone dies a heroe. I think it would have been worse if they'd suddenly brought them all back to life for the final episode, can you say cheesy?

so what was it all about in the end then?

Voodoo, god, magic pixies, super technology or random vaguely mysterious crap?

cant believe I watched this show for 6 years religously and they end it that way, crap ending imo, i was hoping for something more, so many possibilities and they go with that, but i giuess there was so many outlandish themes throughout the whole series that the final explanation of any of them would have been verging on the unbelievable, i did enjoy watching it every week though, they certainly did a good job of keeping millions of viewers enthralled for a long period of time, so it succeeded in its ultimate goal

It's all about connections. It's all about the people that matter, and the things that matter.

I'd recommend watching it for a better explanation :p

Give it half hour and you might think differently ;)

no, i watched it yesterday, i understand it completely, whats not to understand, its explained at the end of the show, i just think its a crap ending

Watched every episode of LOST. Can someone explain it to me lolz.

What I have understood is that the island is a cap above hell and the cutscenes to the alternate life without the plane crash was their journey to heaven.

Or have I got it all wrong?

I thought the island was a volcano...since when would it be a cap to hell? That sounds ridiculous, at least a volcano is a plausible explanation of why it sounded and looked like a volcano was about to erupt when Desmond pulled the plug.

I've watched every episode and thought that ending was a Cop Out.

That plane flying away was also totally ridiculous! Gaffer tape will sort anything out right?

Americans can't do endings it seems. First Life on Mars and now Lost. Hopefully House will bring things back on track...

*******SPOILER*********SPOILER**********

just in case

I watched the first series, the last 2 episodes that were on Sky One tonight and nothing else in-between.

It looks to me like they all died in the first episode and finally realised it in the last. Is that an accurate assumption?
