*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

if you are planning on rooting your phone then you don't need to flash it with a generic rom first, you just need the goldcard in the phone when you begin the process. the thread on modaco gives you the step by step guid, if you follow that you should be ok.

I've already flashed to generic rom to get rid of the Orange apps and demo's. Was just wondering with all this talk about it being an easier process without a gold card.. etc. Will read up on the thread, thanks.

if you've already flashed the generic rom then from what I understand from reading that thread you don't need the goldcard to root it, if you do need the goldcard you'll get an error message in step 1 if you don't have it inserted.

That's because You need to click on the Handcent icon which you place on the homescreen or via the widgets panel.

Messages opens the stock Messages app!

Look on XDA developers - I'm pretty sure I remember seeing someone has created a "nexus experience" rom... or something to that effect which is bland 2.1 without sense...

But then there's going to be a bland 2.2 port to the desire in the next couple of days from modaco :)
Is this the Nexus thing you're talking about - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686987

We'd just be able to flash that on there and have a Nexus to try out with 2.1?

?

And yes, I am rather looking forward to the stock 2.2 coming in the next few days :D

Yup but then saying that my battery was terrible till i fully drained it then charged it fully...now i get a good days use even more sometimes depending on how hard i use it....but even with very hard useage ie web browsing, texts, calls and playing a few games i still have around 30% battery life by the the time i go to bed...which is normally around 1am-ish.

what the hell!
my phone is about 2 days old , i presume it needs a good week of charging/depleting/charging before being stronger??

literally today i listened to music for 40 mins, dl about 4mb on the andriod store and thats it....lame.

Yeah the battery life improves with time :) Helps that after a while you're not downloading 4 million apps a day like you do in the first week too :p

Hehe yeah - first day or two I easily drained the battery in half a day... now it easily lasts for a long days work usage + internet browsing + the odd apps + a bit of playing round with spare left at bed time :D

That's the one buddy :)

Personally though - I'm holding off a bit til there's a known stable 2.2 release... happy with the way i have the phone setup at the minute & with the headaches I had with my HD2, it's put me off being an early adopter of roms etc... I doubt this would be the same, but it's still left a bitter taste in my mouth :(

I did de-brand it to stock 2.1 (1.15) of course though hehe

Could take or leave sense with the desire... no need with something like beautiful widgets and that other web app (forget the name).

just normal browsing, emails etc is giving me like 1 1/2 days before giving the battery needs charging message(@14% and lower charge left).

if I listen to audio books/music while I'm out in town etc the battery last like 10-12hours before I get the batery needs charging message.

I have a spare battery which I got with the desk cradle but not used it apart from testing that it works, going to newcastle for the weekend so will get to test it.

il tell you what i love the phone , but the battery is the biggest pile of **** ever! fully charged last night, its now 3pm and i have 12% remaining! wtf!

I drained the battery twice in just over a day when I got mine but now my usage is what I would call normal and it’s ok. But don't watch videos all day long (who does) and you'll be ok. ;)

Anyone know where I can pick up a ZaggSparq (Or similar) in the UK? It's a 6000mAh battery pack that will charge your phone over micro USB. That's an extra 4 charges, that means my phone could last all week  :p

I've seen some at around 2000mAh but I don't see the point in those, if you're going to lug a brick charger around with you it may as well be worth your while :p

Just keep the USB cable on your person or in your vehicle. Almost everywhere you go a USB port is bound to be nearby. Heck EVEN TV sets and DVD payers have USB ports which you can charge off or a games console for that matter!

It will get that low due to Cell Standby mostly, the phone will constantly be trying to keep the best network reception it can and if you're in a average 3G/HSDPA area then you're going to get slightly higher battery usage.

It would be nice to have a priority setting where you can tell the phone (any phone in fact) the level of priority to give when deciding on how much of the phone's resources to use regarding cell reception.
