My dad loves his, and is replacing his Sony ebook reader with it, but he's having trouble with his current ebook collection. Can you only use ebooks bought from the apple store? If not, where else sells iPad compatible books?

They're all epub, but have drm on them so he can't use them. But everywhere that sells them seems to include drm

Amazon Kindle books work - just need to download the (free) Kindle app.

You can import EPub files via iTunes. You can use Calibre to convert most ebook types to EPub. They should still work on the Sony eReaders too.

I've done this with one of the classics from the Sony CD so I can finish it off on the iPad.

Can you put books into iBook by anychance?

I added the book to the iTune's library in the same way you would a tune. Then you can sync the book in the same way too.

Not bad... A bit block-tastic watching ID4 on Film4 right now. Could be worse though.

Yep its the bit rate at which they send as opposed to the device.

The proper iTunes audiobook format is .m4b - which is just a renamed .m4b so that iPhones will bookmark it and not start the track from the beginning.

I'm assuming that the same will apply for the Pad, but I wouldnt mind somebody testing it out for me, especially interested if you still have the option to play at 2x speed.
