hmm, i have 2 gmail thingios on here. (widget and a proggy)

maybe it's an option in gmail? enabling pop3/imap etc?

No it's still perfectly fine, it just means you go through an extra process to enter recovery.

MCR Rom is good, Wavesecure is built into it and looks great too:

Yeah for the sim removal notification feature :p

I think I'll probably stick with Where's My Droid and Lookout though :p

im just a bit aprehensive :) seems a lot more complicated than flashing my touch hd, is there a dummy's guide anywhere? I know now not to let it do the OTA updates, but some ive read have then suffered sim locks etc

It's not really at all, you just have to have it connected to the PC via USB to flash a ROM as opposed to not, that's about it.

You may need a goldcard too, that's the only "hassle" thing about it imo ;)
 
one other thing, i have a parrot ls3200 car kit, it pairs with the phone but it wont sync the contacts :( at least ive got another 6 days to make my mind up :)

ARGH! Still getting this error:

FAILED: Remote:42 custom id check fail

Even on an x86 Vista build! WTF :( Must be goldcard related even though I succesfully debranded
