I got me a laser cutter, awesome!

That is so awesome, I want one just to play around with but knowing me I'd probably burn everything.

It also reminds me of when people used to use magnifying glasses to burn ants :p (weird I know)

Anyone else thinking of setting it up to follow the mouse cursor in real time, and putting a large acrylic plate inside with an ant on it?:o

Why does THAT remind me of something else? must be the time of the day >_> (FYI, it reminded me of that House episode where House undresses 13 slightly using that cool machine) :p
 
As a fellow engineer I respect your engineering skills and envy you for having access to one of those babies! :D

Very impressive :) Good job with taking it apart, giving it a new paint job, and putting it back together. I once took apart a scanner to try and fix a loose component and struggled to get it back together again!

Pulsed or continuous? Many moons ago I used to built big CO2 lasers for a company called Coherent. Those were 1kW in pulse mode, and could cut through 3mm of aluminium. Mind you, they were also sixteen feet long!

I did exactly the same thing with an ND-YAG laser at my old work. Hurts don't it?

The lasers where I used to work were 3kW diode-pumped ND-YAG lasers. Very cool. But as above, they were a tad larger than this one. It took 3 of us to lift the laser rail out.
