*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Apart from apps and their updates how are this small minority using so much data?

I'd guess they're using tethering, which could be a big reason o2 (and other carriers) are putting these caps in place. So they can tell people tethering is okay to use, but they'll have to pay for the data they end up using.

Just spoke to O2 and asked how much data I've used, told 278976 megagigatigabigabits per month. Whether that's true or the person got it wrong, O2 can go jump with their new plans. Will keep my current 3gs plan and depending on cash balance might opt for new iPhone 4 off plan after selling current 3gs.

On your iPhone, Settings > General > Usage, it will tell you how much you've used.

Anyone know yet if O2 are still only the one's to do Visual Voicemail?

I got the iPhone 3G 16GB at launch, on the O2 £35p/m contract. When the 3GS came out I bought a 32GB one on PAYG and put my 3G contract SIM in it (and flogged the 3G handset). In December 2009 my 18 months were over, but I stayed with O2 on iPhone Simplicity £20.

My current plan for the iPhone 4 is to buy the handset on PAYG and get the Vodafone £20 SIM only contract. I'll then sell my 32GB 3GS handset ;) (which is less than a day old as I got it today as a warranty replacement for my 11month 20days old one!)

Vodafone (iPhone £20 SIM only):
12 month contract
600 minutes
300 texts
1GB data
1GB BT Openzone
Good 3G coverage
Good 3G speeds

O2 (iPhone Simplicity £15 + £5 for an extra 500MB):
12 month contract
300 minutes
Unlimited texts
1GB data
Unlimited BT Openzone/The Cloud
**** 3G coverage
**** 3G speeds

I peak at ~1500 texts, so the Vodafone allowance is fine. I've never seen a The Cloud WiFi hotspot, and I don't use openzone much.

@ O2: To keep me you either need to provide a better service than Vodafone, or be cheaper than Vodafone.

I've used The Cloud Wi-Fi loads of times in bars, starbucks and random places.

You put your mobile number in to register (one time only) and then you can just connect to any of their Wi-Fi networks as if it were a personal one. Pretty good really.

@ Kawolski .. the usage goes from whenever you last restored the phone. It's not that smart! You'd have to log in to the carrier's website to track more information. I logged in to O2 earlier and checked my past couple of months etc

well my friend works for o2 and my business contract is due for an upgrade on 9th June 2010. So he said that i will get the phone for free and i can keep my current tariff.

I defo need more than 500mb i think.
I would be on tv catch up, youtube, last fm , all the time.
My streaming usage would be crazy lol

That's not free.

You're paying more as a business customer, so as an upgrade you'd get a "free" iPhone 4 providing you stay with them for another 12 months. Generous of them :p

whats more popular or commonly found - bt openzone or o2 cloud?

The cloud is very common, although with O2 you get access to btopenzone too so there's no difference really.

I use the cloud all the time at the train station, starbucks, macdonalds and various other bars and things. It's great! :)

Quick question guys, it seems on the new tariffs that you get 'unlimited' text on iphone 4.

I currently have the 3gs and will for a few more months, but only get the 500texts (i have to pay and extra £7.50 a month for another 500)

Will my tariff automatically change to unlimited text as well?

Are you going to be using those outside of places that offer Wifi though?

Big time.
College only has wifi for laptops, and my work does have wifi but at a connection of like 10kbs, which is no good for anything apart from emails.
