*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Really? How does that work if I have a contract direct with Orange?

I went into my local Orange shop today as it happens, after I posted the post above, and they couldn't sell me the Desire for as cheap as I was offered on the phone to Orange, and I wouldn't be able to keep my discounted tariff (whereas I can if I do it directly with them). I'm happy to pay for the phone, I just want my tariff to stay the same! :)

It definitely wasn't a new contract because there was no PAC codes or waiting for numbers to switch over. They just seem to be able to process upgrades on behalf of orange as well. I think the deal was so good, because they get more commission if you rank them higher on a customer survey after you get the phone, so they want you to leave happy.

Meh, I've read bad things online about going with CPW/P4U as opposed to with the operator directly, so I think I'll wait patiently for them to have one in stock :)

From what I got told when I phoned Orange, stock is being reserved for new contracts rather than upgrades. You may have to wait a little while for it if you want a direct upgrade.

Does anyone know a way to improve the quality of the pictures for contacts?

I know that it's google compressing the image in contacts online, but it's really annoying me!! There must be some (quick and easy) way to get round this??

HTC have had stock issues since the desire came out late march - im surprised stock is still scarce...just goes to show that the desire is very popular. It's defiantly put Android on the map!

If you are on O2 or know someone thats on the network, you can buy the handsets offline for £285 from retentions which undercuts a lot of other places.

There a really big thread on HUKD about it and it's pretty straightforward to do.

The phones unlocked, but has o2 branding (startup and wallpaper). Nothing a rooted rom won't sort out.

Thanks fella, Just ordered one today £285 with someone who has an o2 contract.

No hassle just a quick call "I want to buy a Desire... Ok £285 ? Deal!" :)

So where is the best place/forum to read up on what rooting is, What features the latest ROM's have and, How to's etc...

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i would be best buying for it, Protective cases, Memory cards, Cables, Docking systems, Headphones ?

Upgrading from a SE W910i which is refusing to charge consistently, Fed up with the browsing experience too, Most of my time at work is spent browsing the internet.

Nice, you won't regret it :)

As for cases etc, it depends, some people like having a bare phone, some use just a screen protector, and some use a screen protector and keep it in a leather pouch or something. Personally, I have a Martin Fields screen protector, which is pretty damn good, and a cheap gel case off the Bay, which cost about £2 :D it looks nice, and has already saved my phone (as I decided to drop it down the stairs )

Yeah, it's just small fixes in that one, still no closer to a properly working Froyo yet :(

There are more people working on it day by day so it should improve, I hope.

lol what? Read again

im saying Desore has a better OS and the hardware is very close to iphone 4 hence the reason im saying i dont get why people are willing to spend hundreds more on an iphone

Apple will always charge huge and unneccessary premiums while there are still idiots who'll pay it, and we should be thankful that these kinds of people aren't part of the android community.

I'm trying the 0.8 as well. I like Froyo, shame I've been getting battery issues. I don't find Sparta/troya offer much over a rooted standard Rom.

CPW aint that bad, used to work oposite a p4u and have a crack with some of their staff, their manager used to tell me some of the bad practice they get up to. Good deals but be careful with them ;)

As for CPW, depends who you get, but to be fair it's all about giving you best possible customer service to score a 9 or 10 on their text ratings system once you have your new phone. That's how they get their bonuses there, anything lower than a 8 on your customer ratings and the cpw staff are looking at half bonus.

So basically they will offer to move your old numbers, save and move pictures, music.. set your phone up. e.g e-mail, contacts/calendar sync. Pretty much the whole 9 yards. Only if you want them to though..

If you want a desire for free on orange from cpw your looking at either

£30 p/m - Dolphin 24 months contract
500 Minutes
Unlimited Text Messages
500mb Fair Usage Data

or

£30 p/m - Panther 24 months contract
400 Minutes
Unlimited Texts
Unlimited Data (fair usage still, roughly 1gb i believe)

If you need the minutes, risk the 500mb data, you probably won't go over that unless your streaming videos / tv / downloading constantly for the month.

If you want a cracking deal with a free desire and your already a t-mobile customer, i've been through their retention department several times, choosing disconnections and ended up with a

£30 p/m 24 month contract deal with
900 minutes
unlimited texts
unlimited data

You can sometimes swap your unlimited text bolt on monthly as well, so you can choose to drop it to 500 texts and have unlimited landlines or unlimited t-mobile to t-mobile calls. Pretty good deals if you have the coverage for 3G/HSDPA t-mobile in your area.

Well I called up Orange upgrades just now to get me a Desire but they're out of stock, weep :(

How often/long does it take for them to get stock? :)

Haggle. I phoned them once and the guy said it would cost me £80 to buy the phone on Panther 30 Talk plan and that they had none in stock anyway.

Phoned them 10 minutes later and took a sterner line ( i.e. i am leaving orange if you dont give me what i want). Got the phone for £50 and will only be paying £22.50 a month for the Panther 30 talk plan :). Which in my book gives me quite a saving over 24 months!

This was a week last Thursday and I got the phone delivered by Monday morning! Out of stock..pfft!

How many minutes do you get? It's not a massive saving really, as you can get the phone for free for £25 a month with 600 minutes, on a 24 month T-Mobile contract. It's a moot point anyway, if your not considering other networks. :)

What is it your waiting for from the froyo ROM? Camcorder is the biggest issue for me, but i hardly use it anyway.

I don't get the echo or the notification light staying on so it's pretty awesome to me :)

In fact i even donated to the guy yesterday, gives um the urge to work harder :p
