Which "Hot Hatch"?

@Fox yeah it was indeed a PCP - so i'm still struggling to see how I should move forward - I don't want to look much older than a year :-( again re:keeping up with the joneses

Get as much deposit as possible.

Totally. Ideally aim for 30-50% and pick something that isnt going to lose money hand over fist. This way you avoid negative equity - ie owing more than the value of your car - and it means you can 'bang out' of the loan whenever you want simply by selling the car and paying it off in full. That way if life throws a curve ball at you, you can simply have a quick cry, bung the car in autotrader and be back to square one owning nobody anything.

Thats where you and me differ I'm afraid, I can't relate to buying Seats on 10 plates to 'keep up with the Jones's. Far prefer to just buy a really decent car, whack a private plate on it and simply forget about its age until it causes real rather than perceived problems.

Infact thats an option - we'll take that £12k Leon I posted earlier, the yellow one. If you bought that and a £250 private plate from the DVLA how will your mates know how old it is?

They wont.

@Fox fair enough, I must say it is more than that I do want a car like this a lot! in terms of deposit been offered £2k for my car can put another £3k on top of that

This is the sensible way, take his advice.

If i were in your boat i would be buying a very nice 10k something or other with 5k on the drip over 1 year.

And if you care about the Jones's, a £500 dateless numberplate.

Here is what i would do if I was in your position and really wanted a hot hatch.

I'd take my £3k, sell my car for £2k, and have a £5k deposit. I'd then get a bank loan for £6-10k giving me a budget of £11-15k. With this I would then buy a VW Golf GTI, a Focus ST or a Seat Leon Cupra* and a nice private plate for £250. I'd then have an ageless, modern, reasonably new hot hatchback, and I'd owe considerably less than the value of the car.

I could then at any time give it all up by selling the car and paying it off, but if I didnt do this, once it was paid off, I'd own the car outright. Win win.

*These are the best all round hot hatches for this sort of money.

Ok this has turned into epic fail now.

You realy dont want to finance 18k at your age. Seriously i would drop the idea about a 10 plate car now.

Your mates are fools if they earn similar cash to you. Just ignore them.

Im in the same postion as you almost. My car is worth 2k tops and i could add 2k for a new car. Difference is im happy with a 2002 Clio 172 and my mates would think i have done well for my self. I dont need a 10 plate Seat.

Oh i also own an ibiza aswell :p

ATM this seems a good idea, I think replace those with the Civic and we are on to a winner here :D

Thank you for your considered, measured and well justified contribution to this thread.

Lol its getting to that time of night for you isnt it :)

Well bed time I think, thanks for the advice will keep this thread up to date with how it all goes etc :D Thanks again!

I personally feel the best value for money zone with hot hatches is at about £10-12K. That kind of money will get you some serious metal. A new shape CTR, Focus ST, Leon Cupra R, or even a really nice Mk.V Golf GTI/R32.

Trust me, if my current car was 100% my choice, and I could afford the running costs, I would have gone with one of the ones listed above.

Get it detailed, professionally cleaned and bung a private plate on it and you're laughing.
