In fairness Rio is a big loss to us. FFS we have Carragher and Dawson to pick from :( Neither would even be near the squad for me.

Definitely, losing Rio (well, King as well but that was to be expected) has screwed it up royally, you get the sense with Carragher and Terry the team is afraid to push forward for fear of getting caught out on the break and it's completely messed with the whole system.

If all the players didn't like the formation why didn't they just change it while on the pitch? Its not like there is some magic hand keeping them in there position's they could have just huddled up after half time and gone hey lads its obviously not working and capello has lost his balls. why don't we all play in our best positions.

What is Heskey's best position?

Defense;):p

LOL @ Defoes interview after the game..saying that they are a great side lol...no your not especially more so if you cant beat a team that hasnt got anything on you on paper. Its that type of delusion that England are too used to.

Much better than this squad of muppets we have playing...those 2 aquads would have put in much more effort than we did last night. Sir Bobby Robson must be rolling in his grave with our 2 lame assed performances so far.

You obviously missed the times we got slated under Sir Bobby for taking too long to get going in a major comp.

You need to go back and look at italia 90, we drew with the Republic of Ireland 1-1. The equivalent or worse than the USA. Then drew 0-0 with a very poor dutch team that didn't get through the group. We then went into the last game having to beat the mighty egypt. Got through the group with 4 points, which would be 5 with todays scoring.

We were then plodding through the Belgium game, yep the mighty belgium until platts extra time goal, got pretty lucky against cameron with pens before the germans. We then lost to italy in the playoff.

3 wins from 7 matches is not immense!

Rose tinted glasses from a time in your boyhood.

Were you just watching Hansen as well then? It's amazing how badly Gerrard held his position last night.

Drop him or play 5 in midfield.

Maybe not but immense in the fact that they managed to get that far...and nothing to do with rose tinted glasses;)...get off that high horse of yours. That team would have ****ed all over the team we have now...maybe not in skill but in pure desire to win games...i didnt see at any time any desire to win the game last night from the 11 players we had on the pitch.

I was indeed. When they put the line across where Gerrard was stood Rooney always seemed to be wider. The system just doesn't suit the team for me but it can only get better and if you can't have faith in a proven successful manager like Capello you can't have faith in anyone.

I think its the players that need to start playing as a team, rather than for themselves.

Oh, and whilst Rooney was poor on the ball yesterday. He still worked damn hard off the ball covering the left side of midfield when Gerrard was too central.

no he didnt, thats rubbish. he did little to no off the ball work

He's not a left sided midfielder so he's always going to come inside. Should swap him and Lampard around and see if Frank does any better out wide.

Ah, but Frank is better in the middle, and it seems that we have to play Barry, so unless Gerrard plays in behind Rooney (which I would prefer) there's no room for him.

Barry was brought in to relieve Lampard of his defensive duties and Gerrard was pushed out wide so Lampard could get forward unimpeded.

The team was set up perfectly for Lampard, at the expense of other players, and he blew it. If anyone deserves to be dropped it's him.

Having said that, I'd prefer Gerrard behind Rooney as well.

What we lack is ball winners in midfield like scholes the types of players that can nick the ball and are full of energy.

My overall thoughts the next day is that the players looked tired like they'd been up all night playing xbox or something.

The big problem is as clear as day though, we have at best 4 or 5 world class players and that's it the rest are pretty bad and wouldn't get anywhere near other big nations squads.

Rooney Terry Ferdinand Gerrard and maybe Ashley cole and that's all we have I don't consider any of the rest of our squad anywhere near world class.
