Does anybody know what the song is ITV are using? It's not the main one used literally before and after the adverts, but the one that is sort of played around it. It has a flute like instrument in it.

Rather that than Fabio 'Can't speak English for Toffee' Capello, telling them "YOU PLAY BETTER NOW YES".

What an absolute tool.

Well tbh Capello showed a lot more passion the other night than any of the players on the field...in fact at one point you could hear him barking orders from the touchline...even the commentators picked up on it:p

But yes hes a tool for playing the players he did and the tactics as well....now hes saying that this isnt the England that he knows....

I'd be tempted to try a 5-3-2 with Cole and Johnson acting as wing backs, Barry holding for Gerrard and Lampard in the centre and Rooney and Defoe upfront.

Too defensive, the 3 in midfield wouldn't stand a chance against a team with 4 or 5 in midfield, which means by the time the other team get to our 5 in defence, you have 7 or 8 players attacking a 5 man defence, just doesn't work.

Ok forget 5-3-2 and let's call it 3-5-2. I always thought Johnson and Cole would make better wingers than full backs.

Thats why the italia 90 squad after two games took the same hammering for passion that this team has, but hey you remember it how you want to.

There is no way I'd play 3 at the back with johnson anywhere near the side. Bloody algeria ran right through him time after time. It would be like playing with a man short against portugal or anyone with a half decent left sided winger.

Oh god yes, at Italia 90, we pretty much scraped through to the semi's and had one good game against the Krauts, and lost on pens, Platty saved us against belgium and then Lineker against Cameroon.

The only Tourney we ever did well in imo was Euro 96.

I just hope Capello can change the team and turn things around,at the mo im saving my vitriol until wednesday night.

.

And thats only because of a brilliant game against the dutch, otherwise we drew against the swiss, beat scotland who rank about the same as algeria. Then in the knockouts got incredibly lucky against spain, who lets face it had us beat, before getting the usual pens beating by the germans. Again we lucked into a formation that worked.

As an outsider I'd like to make a suggestion why your world class club players are not world class country players: it's down to your media. The amount of pressure applied to your players by your media in the run up to every major tournament is ridiculous. Every mistake is splashed all over the back (and front) pages. The players are left feeling like nervous wrecks - so scared of making a mistake that they can't play with their natural talent. Why do England never win penalty shoot-outs? - for exactly the same reason! The players are so nervous at missing a penalty and the media never allowing them to live it down that they balls it up.
Stop the media applying so much expectation and pressure to your players and you'll have a team that can live up to its world beating potential.

But we had a striker who was world class goalscorer.

and them some... :)

I really think since Shearer / Owen we haven't been able to fill the striker positions.

Rooney is and isn't a class striker. Owen and Shearer give everyone the feeling that they were just odds on to score all the time

See people forget way too easily over time, everyone said Shearer and Owen never played well together.

I'm sorry but for anyone to even suggest Rooney isn't a class striker doesn't know the game. At no point in Owens career did he get anywhere near the amount of permiership goals rooney banged in this season.

Prior to Euro 96 Shearer couldn't buy a goal for england. People forget way way to easy. There were many many calls for him to be dropped.

Let's hope yesterday's game was a wake up call for the team. It really is an embarassment England are ranked as amongst the best in the world yet they produced a pitiful performance.
