No way I could live with a resistive screen after going from my Nokia 5800 to a 3GS. It's just nowhere near as comfortable to use the internet with. I have to admit though - the rest of it wouldn't actually bother me that much.
Resistive doesn't have to be bad. Have you tried the HD's? I had a screen protector on until a couple of weeks ago and it was fine. Took it off because it was scratched and the screen got even better. In fact a friend who has an iPhone was able to use it straight away it's that responsive.
Having said that the HD had a lot of reviews at the time stating the resistive screen in it was almost as responsive as the iPhone capacitive screen so no suprise. It also has massive benefits in other areas. On that note can you use finger nails on the iPhone to navigate? I tried it a year ago on a touch and it wouldn't work, it appears to on the Desire and X10 however.
Yes but define "better" - what might work for one person probably won't work for another. You cannot simply blanket state "This is better than that" when it comes to different OSes as people all have different preferences. For example, I might dislike Android - it doesn't make it necessarily any worse though as it would be mostly down to personal preference.
The main way people say that one phone is better/worse than another is through reliability and build quality, as nobody wants a phone that breaks a lot.
Very true, and the comment can stand as it is because all said was that some are better than others at certain things. Those can be chosen by the user.
The two main reasons, well there are very few carp phones that break out there at the moment, same with the build quality of the top end phones. The new iPhone does have the advantage on materials though. I still don't understand why other phone manufacturers don't make their phones a bit stronger and premium.
Being "closed" isn't as bad as everyone makes out. I certainly like it how the App Store software all... works! And whilst Apple do tend to claim they came up with features that have been in phones for a while, they also tend to polish what the iPhone has to an absolute mirror shine - which is what I love about the device.
Imagine having a computer where you couldn't change the desktop image, change the task bar colour, that only installed programs that had gone through it's manufacturers store.. I just couldn't do it, could you? IMO as soon as the prooduct gets to you you should have full control over what you do with it, if you want to install something on to it then it's your choice where you get it from.
So the only thing going for it is the fact it looks good. Great, when you consider that its going to get shoved into a gel case, or plastic backed case or glove because people won't want it getting damaged.
I had to LOL when recently in the US, I saw hundreds up knuckle draggers with their iPhones in cases like this:
Really, defeating the whole "asthetics / lovely hardware" point.
I agree with that entirely. That also includes those leather "book" style cases that a lot of iPhone (and other phone users) have. Why are the manufacturers making phones that look nice and are as small/thin as possible when the buyers are just dumping them in massive square cases...
Just make them into a cubic shape and be done with it.
Most of the people, most of the time. Android isn't refined or polished enough for most people. Within the tech/geek community, then yeah then Android is about on par overall.
A lot of people would struggle to do simple tasks like drag and drop music from a folder on their pc to the mobile device when it's plugged in. Whereas iTunes makes it easy for them.
The iTunes, App Store & iPhone combo enables people that are not tech savvy to be able to do lots, this is the mass appeal of the iPhone IMO, and why it still rules the roost overall.
You mean like 99% of people do with their mp3 players, their memory sticks, cameras etc?
Drag and drop is far simpler than iTunes. As an anecdotal example my sister got an iPod shuffle about 2 years ago, tried to stick some songs she wanted onto it and found she couldn't (hadn't installed iTunes). She installed iTunes and tried using that, called me in and asked me why she needed to put her card details in and then almost lost it when it seemed to just randomly stick a load of songs on that she didn't want. She never used that iPod in the end, sold it on ebay.
She asked me for help too, but never having used it I had no clue either...
