*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

What, so Apple can boast how the iPhone 4 managed to force a few million left handed people to use their right hand instead?

Let me rephrase that..

What, so Apple can boast how the iPhone 4 managed to force a few million fashion victims to use their right hand instead?

Because, lets face it - you are now victim of the iPhone fashion? No? Apple might as well have said, YOU'LL ALL WANT TO CUT OFF YOUR LEFT HAND TO USE THIS!

No I mean - they've already said that to fix the problem you can use a case - I.e. a bumper - They've never released these "bumper" things before (or not to my knowledge)...

I don't know I'm probably just blowing in the wind :p

25 pound for plastic bumper which should be free for such a faulty device

i cant understand one thing they will certainly know about this, they could easily change the style just add glass or something to hide this steel and thats all, ok i am waitinf mine for 15 july i hope so much it wont have any of the problems

5 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA - aka - really old camera tech
Well, the Samsung G800 was billed as being the first 5 Megapixel mobile camera, and it had a Xenon flash! This was way back in 2007.

.

I wish people would wake up to this old i got more mega pixels than you rubbish. How many SLR cameras out there that have less mega pixels then some of the compacts available. Wonder which takes the best photo.

I guess I'm just plain stupid then. Does it really make a difference if you hold your phone differently, when there's all the other benefits? And if you really have to hold the phone that way buy a bumper. Then you get to enjoy the best phone ever made to date.

Unfortunately as has been said, it is the best marketed phone.

Its technology is barely anywhere (arguably not at all) ahead of the competition.

You are obviously in the 'extreme Apple superfan' bracket if you cant acknowledge this as a massive massive problem that needs to be sorted out.

It doesn't really matter how you put it, Apple have just stuck their head in the sand, and now you are too :)

Try re-synching using the iPhone back ups you already have.
Had to sync mine twice till all the apps copied over with the relevant saved data etc.
As for using an iPod back up. *sucks through teeth* I wouldn't.

This is my first iphone and iv just been using my ipod touch as my app device.

Tried re-syncing but it didnt take any of the data across, everything is just a clean slate. (i have 3* in angry birds on all levels!)

Hum diddly hum.
Any more advice, thoughts, help.
Thanks :)

I think its the exact opposite if I'm honest.

Do you really believe that this phone "is barely anywhere ahead of the competition"? I like to see what the competition is. All I know of is the HTC Evo which isn't even available worldwide and has huge problems.

Read the article I posted above about the "major major problem" its not going to change.

The Flash comment is laughable

I've been browsing the web on my iPad (which of course suffers the same lack of flash as the phone) since owning it. I've even replaced all browsing on my iMac with just using my iPad.

Not once have I had any issues with not being able to visit any of my favourite sites or use any sites. Chances are, if a site uses flash for everything, I wouldn't want to browse it anyway as those sort of clunky sites just annoy me.

But I haven't had a single issue with browsing, and prefer browsing on my iPad over any other platform. And to say it isn't a practical browsing experience is crazy, it's almost too practical. I won't get upset that I won't be plagued by Farmville and other Facebook apps, or miss out on hundreds of annoying ads on sites. Sometimes no flash is a god send

And going back to your other points Malt, all very well and good listing several different phones that had one feature from that list. But name a phone that has them all in one phone and does them all as well as the iPhone does. And you can't. That's why the iPhone sells as well as it does. Because even if it's been done before, it's not been done half as well (maybe not as individual features, other phones have done things better, but thats usually there one selling point, the rest fo the phone is garbage) and integrated into everything else in the phone as well as Apple do it

The Toshiba Portege G900 had a high res screen? Great, too bad it looked awful and had a ghastly UI to boot. Samsung G800 having the first 5MP camera? My dad bought that phone and I remember it wasn't exactly a popular phone because of other issues, my dad can't remember anything about it, so far from memorable. And besides, show me a picture from a phone camera with 8MP+ on todays camera and compare it to iPhones 5MP camera, I guarentee the latter will be the much better picture every time

Iphone 4 Headline Features:

FACETIME - aka - Video calling.
I have had numerous phones that have has this feature. My old M5000 (available Q3 2005) was the first I had used...

Yup, but it's new to the iPhone. I don't think they've said otherwise :) Like on previous phones to have it, it's pretty limited too.

Two Cameras - Again, old tech.. No innovation here. All the features, including switching between the cameras for Video calling were available on the M5000 (Q3 2005)

The m5000 was also absolutely massive with a godawful 1.3mp sensor which is in no way comparable to the iPhone (or others, for that matter).

RETINA DISPLAY - aka - High resolution screen.
Apple boasts 326 PPI for the screen. The Toshiba Portege G900 back in 2007 had a 313 PPI screen. Apple does hold the torch in this area amongst current phones, so this might actually be the only decent bit of "newish" tech in the device.

I doubt it used an LED backlit IPS screen though :p

MULTITASKING - aka Multitasking.
Well, again... How Apple can get away with calling this a new feature suprises me. Windows Mobile and I think even palm os were doing this back in 2006. I can even find reference to windows mobile 2003 having some multitasking support.

We know it isn't new, why does it have to be new to be good?

Ahaha, are you actually comparing the two? Being the same megapixel count means NOTHING. I have a G800 here if you want proof :p

Sure, it doesn't have the best features out there... like my Omnia HD did when I bought it. I grew to hate the Omnia HD, brilliant specs, shoddy software.

Why can't you accept that it does what some people want in the form factor some people like? Had it been massive like the latest Android phones (Droid X, Evo etc.) I wouldn't have got one.

The 4 is soo slick compared to the 3G. Speedy app launching, instant keyboard response. It the iPad is like this then I now want one of them too. And no antenna issue for me without contortion and licked fingers.

I am almost glad of the antenna 'issue' as it gives the Apple haters something to focus on. A baying pack of hounds delightfully leaping on any perceived misstep by Apple. Just so they can be pathetically part of one of the most vibrant threads on the forum. Welcome! If you don't have an iPhone, hating the idea of them is almost as fun.

In my mind, iPhone 4 is definitely the best phone out there (If there wasn't these hideous antenna problems) - the hardware is limited (but updated every year) but the software is far superior to anything on the market and double that up with the app store.

just went into the o2 shop to see how much it will be to upgrade from 3gs to this, will cost my £30 for the handset which is a lot less then i thought :)

so come 22nd july i shall be on my way to o2 for one :)

That's the thing that a lot of people forget as well, the hardware might be "limited", although I don't share that opinion

But the software that brings it all together is unmatched. There isn't a phone out there that comes close to the iPhone in terms of its OS and UI. I've tried so many phones up until about June when I was convinced I was going to try something new, but trying all these phones reminded me why the iPhone is so good

And if anyone mentions the HTC desire, I'll **** my pants! I'm yet to see a phone use Android to its full potential

Whats perceived about the problems? Your almost glad? The force is strong with you.

Jobs can probably sell you a turd and you'll still think its the best thing since sliced bread.

He bends the fanboys over without any lube and they still come back for more!

LOL bit rich coming from you mate...seeing as about a week ago you wanted to know how to get out of your contract to buy one;)

Ring any bells???:p

Not really, back then no one knew about these issues.

Hell I've been everywhere looking up and reading as much as I could about the phone.

it would have been the first smart phone I buy. Now I doubt I'll get it if these problems aren't resolved.

The HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy S are both arguably better/the same with regards to power/software etc.

I dont want to start a discussion on this here though, however I think most people would agree they would prefer a phone with a reliable and working signal than one without.

You really dont have an argument and as I said, have stuck your head in the sand. Your decision entirely :)
