*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Checked the settings, noticed push was set on some of the email accounts. That could be the reason its seems to be trickling down with not much usage.

Does it matter if you use the iPad charger? I know the the iPad needs more volts/watts or whatever, but should be ok to use it to charge the phone?

I'm finding it much better to be honest. The majority of apps aren't really background apps, they're just saved states so they wont run your battery down. Thats what Apple mean by doing it 'right' ;). It's miles better than the desire (its battery consumption is currently a joke), but that may be sorted in 2.2.

Good to hear about the batt life, its basically one of the most important things to me personally when I get a phone. Also have the desire, and I agree that at
times, the battery life is shameful. But im not sure about this apple way of multi-tasking...when you say that its just saved states, does that mean that the program isnt actually running? So for eg like if I'm on a web page thats taking ages to load, so i write a text or do something else in the mean time, will the page just start loading from where i left it or will it continue to load in the background?

My battery has been pretty good :) I notice Wifi will eat it up a bit along with face time obviously :p me an my brother have been using that a bit :D

One problem I have is with Tesco Mobile I think, I know they use o2 as their network etc but I can't seem to use 3G? I get the error "Could not activate mobile data network", I've checked the settings and they are all o2-uk settings such as APN = idata.o2.uk etc. But I can't seem to connect.

Anyone else on Tesco Mobile who can/can't use 3G?

Not sure about web browsing, but i believe gps apps and apps like last fm are active background apps. However most others like facebook (haven't tested fbchat, but it should be active), sky news, etc will be saved states where you just pick up where you left off and don't auto update as a news widget would.

It's a good point you make about the web browsing though. Might give it a try when i get back from work as thats something i regularly end up doing.

The facetime, not had a chance to use it. How does that work? I've seen its via the contacts list and its an option like 'call' 'send text message'. But its via wifi? So ur just using wifi and not the cellular network to make the call?

Apps can use the "task completion" element of the multitasking implementation to keep properly alive in the background for up to around 10 minutes I beleive.

I use Colloquy (IRC client) and when switching away it stays connected and receiving messages. If after 10 minutes you don't return to the app it triggers a push notification saying you can either return to the app or it will disconnect. I expect this is how most apps which need to keep a connection will work.

I saw people queuing up for the iPhone 4 the other day. Queston: I want one for my friend in China. I was going to buy it from an Apple retail store (so it's unlocked) - he would deffo have little problem using in China?

Okay okay - main question was - will most Apple stores have this in stock? Not like when consoles come out and everywhere is empty? If so I'll head down later/tomorrow.

I'm confused.

Ordered from Apple. Estimated ship date: 15th July. Delivery date: 19th July. Why does it take 4 bloody days to deliver it lol

Also do Apple prioritize stock to their own customers, any chance of getting it before then?

Tesco iPhone 4 - Who has one?

Hello all

I've just been looking at some frankly amazing deals (compared to other carriers) from tesco on the iPhone 4.

http://www.tescomobilepaymonthly.com/iphone-deals/

I'm very tempted to jump ship from t-mobile to tesco if t-mobiles prices are like o2's.... when t-mobile finally decide to release that info. Does anyone have a tesco iPhone 4 and if so what is the network coverage/internet speed like? I hear Tesco piggy back of o2's network, is this true?

15th July is a Thursday. The courier service is possibly up to 48 hours (so Monday 19th), but in reality, it'll probably arrive the day after.

Two requirements really.

1) That his carrier uses UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz) GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).

2) That he can either get a MicroSIM or doesn't mind cutting up a normal SIM.

Are you going to China? If you're going over, why not buy it there? If anything they should have it in stock? I know the pound is really bad relatively speaking but I reckon it should still be cheaper over there?

I did manage to order a gift from the Australian apple store and got it sent to someone in Oz, although I had to lie about the billing address, as it has to be in Australia. It accepted it though and it was sent.

I have ordered a few things in the past though, so maybe my orders on there are 'accepted' as being legit.
