some muslims feel that women can not go out in public, that they be veiled etc... it doesn't impose such restrictions to men. it is completely sexist. maybe you should talk to a woman if you do not understand how this can be degrading for a woman.

But it's not exclusively for that reason. Education not a ban. If husbands feel that way, they are probably breaking other laws. Physical/mental abuse and other areas.

It is absolutely no reason for a ban on an item of clothing.

Not all women are forced to wear it. Not all women wear the same type of veil. It is not compulsory for muslims to wear the veil.

I agree with this. Two reasons.

Firstly, it is a security risk.

So how come at the hight of the IRA etc attacks on Britain a far greater threat than any of the Muslim groups we didn't ban their balaclavas?

Also what makes you think they won't just star wearing

What then ban that too?

I believe it should be banned.

I believe that for public interest it is best if you can see people's faces. Religion in my opinion is no reason to cover your identity.

I would ask the people who think that the veils are fine, do you believe that the local chav's who wear the hoodies which also cover their faces should be able to cover themselves too? The reasons are the same in my opinion. No - public safety comes first.

That's not the point, they can and do leave them on, People wear a hoodie up and pull the cord in to cover there face.

If you go into any major store with a hood up with your face covered 99% of the time you will be asked to take it off by security.

They won't wear anything else because its not "permitted" under Islam's "Rules".

Then why ban something specific, ban covering of the face. In that stance there is zero reason to single out any clothing.

No problem with that, doesn't change teh fact that other people can and do cover there face up, so if it is for security "reason" there is no need to single teh veil out.

I'm also all for shop owners and the like to make there own policys up.

That's a very westernised view. I find it sad that so many people want to force their beliefs on others.

easy you look at british culture and then look at islamic culture and then decide which one you'd rather live under, then you decide, no?
Then you have to define British culture, something I'm not sure I could do seeing as we're such a mishmash of various cultures and values and ideas. I'm not sure that all aspects of Islam are out of place here.

Perhaps not always for the better.

The veil is just a symbol of the islamification of Britain.

this is definetely not a change for the better. personally, i don't want to walk down the street and see this kind of thing, just as i don't want to see mosques appearing everywhere or timetables being changed to be kept in tune with the fasting of some religions when we can't even hold a nativity play in a school or put up decorations, flags etc because it offends some other religions. things like this need to be kept a close eye on before we lose our identity through fear of offending. its about time we spoke up for ourselves and had a fair say.

i agree that a ban is the wrong approach (hence i voted option 2), i think education about women's rights is a better option.

a ban is a slippery slope imo and doesn't really address the real issue.

but i do believe that it is degrading to women and makes them into second rate citizens. the problem of how islam treats women is much greater than just wearing a veil -> virginity, forced marriages, polygamy, going out in public, getting a job, education, driving a car etc...

thankfully not all muslims are misogynists
