So on the same basis shall we lock up all of our children until they are 18. Just in case a peadophile is tempted, so removing the source will stop the issues at hand.
You are blowing this way out of proportion, you've already taken it to rape, and now to paedophilia?

Yeah it's not allowed, but when has the law stopped a rapist from raping someone? And who will he pick as his victim? A lady doing her shopping in morrisons dressed in a curtain or a drunk blonde walking home from a club at 4AM wearing practically nothing?

depends...does he like an audience :p

Western society is based on ideas of freedom, the freedom to say and do whatever you want, even if people disagree with it, as long as you don't impinge on someone else's freedoms. Much like how I don't like the BNP but I tolerate it as part of the way a democratic society works.

We cannot simply go around banning things we don't agree with, even if we think it's for the woman's own good.

The exception to this should be where a veil is impractical, such as like motorcyclists being asked to take off their helmets when entering banks, or cross-wearing Christians or kara wearing Sikhs removing their religion items on factory lines so they don't have an accident.

So no, though I am fundamentally against some peoples' interpretation of women being forced to wear veils, I do not believe we should ban them.

Since when was it the western way to force people how to dress?

That sounds like a concept you'd find in some backwards middle eastern country......

As always with these ideas the two extremes of the line are so close it may as well be circle.

i am not forcing anyone to dress a particular way. if you read my posts i clearly voted for option 2. but i do feel that the issue of how some forms of islam treats women is not in line with western values and this have no place here. I will not tolerate shri'ah law in governemnt laws in western countries, it is not what we stand for. i am tolerant of muslims, but i do draw the line when it infringes on our philosophy; therefore i would not tolerate public stoning etc....

Again i don't think a ban on a veil addresses this and thus not in favour of a ban. I would rather see more done about educationg people about western and modern views of society. If muslim women were asked their opinion without any risks of backlash, i am fairly certain an overwhelming majority would not want to wear the veil and be treated in such a submissive manner (education, employment etc...) or a piece of property over which the husband has the right of life and death.

The punishment is the main part of the laws (same as it is here only harsher).

But thats why not all of them wear it or not to the extreme examples.

But you do know that now everyone in schools etc is all crb'd baby sitters have to be too, if you mind your mates kids in turn they'll mind your legally you both have to be back ground checked. etc.

Also technical it would only be till 13 if you where going to use that extreme example.

which souds about the age many parents would prevent their daughter wearing mini skirts or going out late at night before.

So yeah many parents already do similar to lesser degrees, like say only wearing a headscarf.

Amazing how many people defend the right to wear the burka based on some outdated religious nonsense even though a lot of us see it as a security threat. Yet go to a muslim country, simply name a teddy bear mohammed and they want to cut your head off.

I hope you're not going to tell us the latter deserves it (but I'll leave it there as it is off topic). I say this as someone who doesn't personally like either extreme, but I see no merit in banning the veil, just as I don't see any merit in banning bikinis.

I guess the French forgot about "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité", and Vichy...

I don't think a ban is right, there must be another way.
I'm all for acceptance that other people have different cultures.

But they should follow the same rules as other items that cover the face, like security areas, you take it off and respect the country of stay laws.
If you want to bring religion in to it, go somewhere with people who actually care about that stuff.

Voted 'No'.

I held off voting in the hope of coming across some reason that I hadn't heard before.

I want as little outside interference in my life as possible. I don't think it should be the responsibility of the government to tell me what I can and cannot do with my own body.

Women covering there faces. How does it relate to God/History?

It doesn't. Man just made it up at some point.

It's not logical enough for me to accept that any god would want something that he/she created quite beautiful to be covered from head to toe.

who is defending it for that reason.

We are defending it
a) because if it is for security, then you simply need to ban covering of the face, regardless how you do.
b) are freedom to dress how the hell we want and no be dictated to.

The average Non religious people seem to be far more intolerant than the average religious person these days
