I don't even understand how the veil affects most of you. Like I said, I live in east london and I hardly ever see a veiled lady and this is in an area where white people are a minority. I find it hard to believe how veiled women can have such a massive effect on most of you guys, especially those who live in extreme muslim minority areas.

It doesn't. Man just made it up at some point.

It's not logical enough for me to accept that any god would want something that he/she created quite beautiful to be covered from head to toe.

Similar clothing existed for centuries in Persia, the culture likely merged with Islam.

Amazing how many people defend the right to wear the burka based on some outdated religious nonsense even though a lot of us see it as a security threat. Yet go to a muslim country, simply name a teddy bear mohammed and they want to cut your head off.

so they dont have as much freedom and neither should we ?

surely to be the opposite of them we should give women the right to choose what they wear ... how are we any better if they say you must wear this and we say you cannot wear this

who is defending it for that reason.

We are defending it
a) because if it is for security, then you simply need to ban covering of the face, regardless how you do.
b) are freedom to dress how the hell we want and no be dictated to.

The average Non religious people seem to be far more intolerant than the average religious person these days

Sorry, I should clarify. What I meant was that the veil is worn due to their religious reasons. Correct me if I'm wrong? To me, it's religion (AGAIN!) causing all this friction. I'm quite sick of it.

To clarify further:
I have NOTHING against muslims.
I DO have a problem with Islam.

exactly. we, as a country are becoming a push over. the veil gives off a sign of furtivness, they don't want to be seen, therefore they will not interact with anyone else in society but 'their own'. this is not what the uk is about, it's not what made us the country we are. would you feel comfortable if someone wearing a veil knocked at your front door? i wouldn't, certainly not as comfortable as i would if joe public knocked on my door but then i wouldn't feel that comfortable if 3 15 yr old lads knocked on my door but atleast i'd know who i was dealing with (off point) british society is about helping people and by that i mean something as simple as asking for directions from a stranger in the street and to do that, the communication lines need to be open.

No, absolutely not. The state has no place dictating what people wear generally. Any specific issues should be tackled in an evidence driven way (eg ban on all head coverings in government offices).

It really shows how much you guys know.

Im asian and a lot of my friends are pakis and wear Veils not always full body and full covered face scalves.

There what 18/19 and up and its there OWN CHOICE.

If they get married majority of the time they do it on there own accord and if they decide to wear a FULL body suit thats there own choice and not really that of there husbands all the time.

Yet i see some of you saying its THERE HUSBANDS forcing them to wear it and them being oppresed no its apart of there culture which the majority of asian women who are muslims do on there own accord.

I dont really like the full face covered burka as much as ANY OF you do I think a headscalf is perfectly fine and that covering of the face is not nice.

If you want to ban covering of the Face ban covering of the face instead of genralising a whole culture of people.

That and a lot of the guys I kno who are married to a girl who wears a full veil also wear a full length suit as welll for the same reasons as they would want there wife too.

Also keep in mind its not that common that they will wear a full length the majority of muslim girls i kno and around just wear headscalves.

Jesus.

No because the same rules should apply to other non religious face covering garments such as crash helmets and balaclavas.

Just admit you don't like people that aren't like you.

I'll glady admit I don't like Muslims in my country, this is no secret. I don't think their culture is compatible with ours and it never will be.
