Can I get a rough estimate here. How many people in this thread defending the veil are muslims? It may well be that there's an even split between muslims and non muslims, but I'm curious all the same.

No, absolutely not. The state has no place dictating what people wear generally. Any specific issues should be tackled in an evidence driven way (eg ban on all head coverings in government offices).

I'll glady admit I don't like Muslims in my country, this is no secret. I don't think their culture is compatible with ours and it never will be.

exactly. we, as a country are becoming a push over. the veil gives off a sign of furtivness, they don't want to be seen, therefore they will not interact with anyone else in society but 'their own'. this is not what the uk is about, it's not what made us the country we are. would you feel comfortable if someone wearing a veil knocked at your front door? i wouldn't, certainly not as comfortable as i would if joe public knocked on my door but then i wouldn't feel that comfortable if 3 15 yr old lads knocked on my door but atleast i'd know who i was dealing with (off point) british society is about helping people and by that i mean something as simple as asking for directions from a stranger in the street and to do that, the communication lines need to be open.

First of all the chances of a veiled woman knocking on your door are pretty much zero.

Secondly, you would rather have a bunch of youths (statistically chances are they're there to cause trouble) knocking on your door, just because you can see their face?

Thirly, the communication lines need to be open? what the hell? you're acting as if there's 100 veiled women for every 1 non-veiled person.

Edit: Banning the burkha/veil will not stop the propagation of Islam in the west - which I believe is the main reason behind all these petty nitpicking. Muslims are breeding like their's no tomorrow, not just Muslims, but other religions & cultures as well. Face it, the white blue eyed male is a dying breed...a thought so terryfying to western world that its got them in jitters and even going for communist style lawmaking such as an outright ban.

Go home, get busy in bed, have babies if you want to see your 'culture' survive in the mordern world. But oh no, I want to live for my selfish self, dump parents into a home and come back to see them when it comes to collecting any inheritance, want a different woman every other day and certainly no babies! Oh yeah, but I'll impose my culture to these immigrants so they can carry it on for me?

Read my post theres a lot of truth in it I am surrounded by this all the time and I understand the reasons for full face scalves not being liked.

Headscalves I have no issue with.

Its only seen as oppression because the way you loook at the other islamic countries and how they enforce it on women over here its really a choice okay?

And the small few that are forced are usualy from backwards mentality families.
