So when the Romans forced their religion on us that was fine because it happened long ago?

Reg: All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
Attendee: Brought peace?
Reg: Oh, peace - shut up!
Reg: There is not one of us who would not gladly suffer death to rid this country of the Romans once and for all.
Dissenter: Uh, well, one.
Reg: Oh, yeah, yeah, there's one. But otherwise, we're solid.

were you the dissenter? ;)

in all seriousness, this isn't really the same thing.

how would (or will you?) feel if you cannot see your child or grandchild in a nativity play because it offends someone of non-christian faith

Again, in which case, why are you singling out veils, rather than asking for a general ban on face coverings in certain places.

I assumed face coverings were banned in the UK in public functions like they are here... Exceptions are made for religion here though which I find retarded.
At my work too, a girl can wear her veil as she pleases because she is islamic, yet I can't wear a cap or a tuque...

If it was up to me I'd un-do the ban on face coverings altogether, I don't give a hoot what people wear.

No sorry I meant they do wear them in the pertol station shop, ofcourse but not in main highstreet shops.

Yes I believe theres no place for religion.

And I believe, no beliefs should be banned or oppressed, unless it's against fundamental laws.

why should your beliefs be projected onto others, what makes you right?

Nope and no exceptions for religion either

Yeah Christianity was brought here at the point of a sword.

About as annoyed as if they couldn't do a Dies Natalis Solis Invicti play because it might offend the Christians?

Besides the nativity is dull once you've seen it every year in school ater a while, the summer productions of Oliver etc where much better.

no beliefs should be banned or oppressed,
They clash.

Christians moan about shops being open on Sunday. I personally think they should **** off and mind their own business, if I want to open shop on sunday that's no business of some religious nutter or the government. I hate the argument between shops and the Christian democratic government about opening on sundays which went on here for ages.

So do I and guess what they haven't got there way, shops are open on Sunday.

Thankfully we have a right to complain and protest, doesn't mean they should be listened to.

dull or not, it's our identity being removed. oliver will go soon too if we're not careful.

it's not your identity hough, it's a celebration of a middle eastern religion, mounted on top of of an Italian pagan festival.

Not one part of it is from Britain.

Our whole culture was built on going out n taking other countries **** "the empire" as it where.

a lot of what you say is our face is just things our country picked up along the way lol you cannot really define anything as ours -_-.

Not one part of it is from Britain.

it is my identity, same as singing 'all things bright and beautiful' in school assembly was my identity, same as all my school friends did and so did the whole country through my 80's and 90's school life. things which will be gone sooner or later.
they're more my identity than a veil or a mosque.

Well congratulations, your identity is middle eastern.

And in the highly unlikely event the country ever converts to Islam, your descendants identity will also be middle eastern (but with less Italian).
