*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

I've used OD for a long time but switched to Defrost 2.0d (then e and now f) and this is better than OD. LauncherPro swiftness is also nicer while scrolling and DeFrost gets updated faster (almost daily the past few days).

The camera also records at 840x480 using h.264 instead of OD's 720x480 mpeg4 but we'll all soon have 720p with capped framerates of 24/30 anyway so all will be good.

Did you use the ROM kitchen? Does it actually have the latest ROMs (in terms of d,e,f, etc), I can't seem to find out if it uses the absolute latest version of the ROM

Daft question - Does the Desire have a tilt sensor like the iphone?. As in, when browsing the web can you tilt if on its side in order to view more of the web pages?. What about zooming in and out on the desire on a web page?. Similar function to the "pinch" screen on the Apple or nothing like that?.

I'm sat here trying to weigh up whether to go out today and grab a Desire as I'm due an upgrade on Tmobile or wait for the iPhone 4 later this month.

Reading the thread here on the issues with the iPhone 4 is putting me off slightly hence I'm considering a Desire or a Galaxy S.

Kitchen? o.0

I use the XDA thread for each ROM :p more precise especially when people post updates and tips etc!

DeFrost does come with twitter/facebook if you wipe and install but they are in /data so can be removed easily. It also comes with rom manager and a volume control app which can also be uninstalled. I no longer use ROM Manager btw due to the permanent recovery via unrevoked flasher so no more PC connection or recovery zip faff needed when ROM testing :p

I've also decided not to use kernel updates anymore but use what comes with the ROMs as I have encountered some SD card corruptions that widnows complained about (and repaired) and I could only trackback to kernel updates and using UV/OC kernels so have decided to not use those for a while to see how it goes.

Phone runs just as fast without them too running Defrost and scores 40.9 in Linpack.

Worth noting that at the moment there is a issue with the display brightness when set to auto being lower by around 2 notches and that battery stats will show the display using the bulk of the battery although richardtrip says the latest defrost should have solved the latter - I'm just leaving my phone off charge all day to see how long it has left when I get home to determine if it's inline with 2.1 ROMs.

Draeger yes it has an accelerometer and has multitouch for pinch zooming in browser, maps, photo viewer and homescreen as well as all apps where the dev has implemented it :p

It's really as smooth as an iPhone 3GS on the whole.

Robbie, I meant that online kitchen place where you can choose your default ROM, add your apss and then it whacks it all together for you.

Can you tell me know then, are you using App2SD or do you still have an ext partition and is it ext 3 or 4?

I'm basically starting from scratch today with OD 1.6f and have formatted the card blank. Also, what is the process for not having to push files from the PC to enter recovery mode?

I am not using FroYo Apps2SD because quite frankly it's not that great :p

I'm using an EXT4 partition so the ROM puts everyting (cache and apps) to that partition. Currently with 54apps installed internal memory has 99MB free but this goes up and down by several MB daily depending on usage. There's 143MB free if you're starting from scratch with an EXT partition though but it's worth noting SOME apps must install to internal memory.

I don't use that kitchen btw :p

Also, OD 1.6f you say!

Lolbum, I meant DeFrost 1.6f

Could you let me know the procedure for recovery if I dont need to use my PC anymore

Procedure is super easy. So easy it will make your head spin.

Download unrevoked and make sure you have installed the hboot driver (to do this one time only bit start phone in hboot mode (vol down + power) and connect it up to USB and point Windows to the HBOOT driver folder that comes with unrevoked, follow driver instructions that come with it too if any issues).

2:
Download the R4 .img file linked in above thread

3:
Run unrevoked (phone should not be plugged in)

4:
Click file and customs elect the R4 .img file

5:
Plug in phone and let it do its thing.

Now when you want to do a backup or flash a new ROM or restore your backup just vol down + power at boot and choose recovery!

There can't be a lot of diff with sense tbh. I am using DJRom and getting 39.8 as an average on linpack with a standard non-overclocked Desire.

Is sense really that bloated when you look at those scores ?

The processing scores will all be near enough give or take a few numbers.

SenseUI isn't as smooth or polished as other launchers like LauncherPro for example, it doesn't utilise the potential of FroYo (it didn't in 2.1 either) as it's not as smooth and scrolling homescreens is slower as is scrolling large lists like the calendar agenda for example or contact information in a contact card.

Stock Android just does it smoother and with the aid of a better launcher like LauncherPro or ADW the experience is even more improved.

With Spare Parts I have enabled "Fast" animations for window and transitions so now everything UI wise is even faster still.

I've just taken delivery of my brand spanking new HTC Desire :D but I want to import my contacts from my existing SE W995 and it doesnt seem to be working properly!

I've put my old SIM in the new handset but it only seems to have imported one number per contact as opposed to the 2 or 3 I have!?!?!

Anyone know how to get the whole lot transferred as is so all numbers are listed for each person???

Thanks.....

StevieP

Come to the conclusion that with any 2.2 rom my phonebook wont sync with my parrot :( I guess ill have to wait for Froyo to come out officially and wait for Parrot to update the software or stick with 2.1 roms :(

What's the point of the DeFrost setup App? It has a section saying I can download mods to get a black notification bar etc, but it doesnt tell you how.

Just installed the latest nightly cyanogenmod6 build - its RAPID :D

No 720p camera is the only let down so far but with a 1414 Quadrant score at stock I'm going to stick with it for now :D
