There isnt any, but every time a muslim is "offended" by something they play the racism card.

Happens a lot in university too, muslim student gets bad marks, complains, pulls the racism card, suddenly she/he gets a first.

:o

I'm going to give up, you clearly can't change ingrained racism and generalisations.

Indeed, Ive gone to some predominately asian Colleges through my college years as i lived in east london at the time.

I saw head scalfed muslim girls as in Just hair and neck cover.

I at most twice saw a full bodied veil and they were both showing there faces.

You know these guys seem to have it on good authority that every muslim wears a face covering veil and is a terrorist or extremeist but thats so very clearly not the truth man...

Oh lord.

As for history, if anything, history has taught us to say, **** off, go back to your land, this is British culture and we will fight to the death to preserve it.

But in today's world it is enough to say, if you are in Britain, quit the religious outfits and don't expect us to be supportive of your religious beliefs.

Where? Give historic proof where the British have constantly pushed people away?

The Royal Family is of German descent. Did people tell them to **** off?

Not being linked to a religion which would mean in this case that the French Government cannot impose a national religion.

is france making them wear crosses? the burkha is a form of extreme islam which is not secular and completely incompatible with western values. it is obvious from all your posts that you clearly do not graps this fact eventhough you claim to be 2nd or 3rd generation UK citizen.

in case you had not noticed but there is an issue with extreme islam all over the world, it goes beyong the US and Europe as the recent attacks in Africa show us yet again. extremist islamists are at the route of most conflicts currently on the planet - this is not fear mongering this is a fact. France like Belgium decided to ban a form of extremist islam, the burkha. it may not be the best way imo, but it is a stand against radical islam. in fact Italy, Spain and now Germany are considering similar legislation, and from the poll results it isn't impossible the UK could do something similar.

now you can live in your bubble and pretend women choose to wear these burkhas, but fact is many have no choice and it is imposed by a radical view of Islam, which has no place in western culture.

Please point out a post where I have stated that no where in the world does this oppression occur. I have not denied it does occur. However, not all the women, at least in Western culture who are Muslim, are forced to wear the burkha. Some do so out of choice.

I agree that radical Islam does not have a place in Western culture but the burkha is not a part of radical Islam, it is part of Islam. Also, not every Muslim woman does wear the burkha.

Or course areas in places like Syria, Saudi Arabia etc do have oppressive laws but why should we impose equally oppressive laws?

How is it racism?

It is no different to asking a person coming into a shop wearing a bike helmet to take that off before service.

What is the difference?

It isn't racism but it could very easily be argued that it breaches the rules regarding religious discrimination. Your religion is protected by law, your mode of transport isn't. So while a shop could ask they would be opening themselves up to the possibility of a discrimination case. There is also the concern that certain parts of the muslim community can be somewhat vocal and threatening with regards to their religion being challanged in even legal ways and so many would not want to risk offending.

I voted no, quite surprised to be honest how many people voted yes.

If this poll is about "women's place in modern society" I'm not sure how banning them from wearing something improves their place, it's just a different set of people telling them what they can and cannot do.

improves their place? what place would that be then? No its the "majority" people of the resident country saying '"dont wear a face mask as no one else wears them". Its wrong on so many levels. I want to walk in public naked but i cant because no one else does. it would be frowned upon and i would be instantly arrested bye bye freedom.

Saying that we dont want faces masked is hardly oppressive on the same level, its not even the same ball park. Infact its freeing them from an oppressive burden and also allowing them to better integrate within our society/culture, there's no malice intended, the majority just dont want it. i'm not a racist as some others clearly are in here, religionist maybe :p We've almost got rid of our own religion we shouldnt start pandering (we love this word dont we) to foreign religions.

You give someone an inch they take a mile. If its such a contentious issue and the vote is in the majority of ban I don't see the problem at the end of the day its a horrible practise and should be eliminated. It not going to be the undoing of us or them if we simply dont want masked people walking around and that mask represent values we should not believe in, namely the oppression of women.

are you serious? you now comparing Islamic terrorism to christian

Terrorism is terrorism, regardless of religion. My point was that all groups are capable of such acts. Banning the burkha is there for security due to the heightened 'threat' of Islamic terrorism.

Let's say, however extremely unlikely, that a nun commits a terrorist act. I know many can't see it happening but if it happened would legislation be passed to stop nuns wearing their robes?

Would you support it?
