*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

xmarks is great, i made a profile for the phone and only added the folders i wanted on the desire, keeps it synced nicely

I have come to realise that a lot of people saying the battery on the Desire is rubbish to be fools.

that is the dumbest statement of the week for sure!

Thanks guys - perfect!

Just rooted the handset, and just installed DeVillian 1.0 - once it reboots I'll install the radio update then can look at apps etc.

Cheers

I'm just about to dump DeVillain, it works ok but it just eats the battery. I'm losing 5% an hour just on standby.

What an absolutely ridiculous statement. I'm having problems with battery life, and am trying to figure out if it is app or Rom related, or actually faulty. How does that make me a fool?

You obviously have great insight into this matter, and as you are obviously a far superior being than I, please now dispense your great wisdom and knowledge and provide the solution to my poor battery life, and while you are at it, solve the national debt, and eradicate poverty.

Oh, you can't? Fool.

I used Khaaan!'s guide on page 205 - only difference is I used GoldCardTool 0.05 to create the required gold card.

Rojin - what rom are you looking at as a replacement. I've so far tried DeFrost 2.0g and Deviliian 1.0 so I'm very new with rom releases.

I think we must have different amounts of posts on each page because my 205 doesn't have a guide on it. Could you let me know the post number please?

Erm I dunno! I've tried pretty much all of them. I haven't tried SetRom 3.6 and the new 2.0 Open Desire. I quite like the Flickr integration in Sense so I've been drawn back to the Sense ROMs, that and the Photo Gallery working at 24bit (I can't stand the 16bit Gallery!). DjDroid hasn't been updated since launch, I was hoping for more from the DeVillain ROM considering their history on the Hero...

I'll probably go back to OpenDesire 2.0 if I can't get this battery drain sorted ASAP.

Well I tried DeFrost today... By the looks of this thread I must be on the vast minority that think Sense is nice... I just couldnt get on with the standard Android interface and parts of it are plain fugly (phone dialler for example).

I appreciate there may be apps that can remedy this but I just dont see what benefits standard Android has over Sense... Can anyone help here ??

This is NOT an attack on the standard Android OS, I am genuine when I ask people what benefits something like DeFrost or OD have over, say, DJ ROM or its equivalents i.e. non-Sense v Sense.

Can ppl that have tried both please help explain the main key advantages and disadvantages of Sense v non-Sense.... (genuine question)

EDIT: Meant to add. I tried Trip's UV 998 kernel... Didnt like it. I appeared to get a lot of graphical glitches on my phone when running this. Had to go back to standard kernel....

EXT can be upgraded inline without wipe/format. As long as it's already got an EXT just do it in recovery.

Robbie - when you say "upgraded inline" does this mean, if I upgrade my current standard A2SD and then do a restore on Titanium Backup, all my apps should continue working ??

The reason I would Backup/Restore is because I stupidly made a 256MB swap file thinking it would be a good idea so I will need to re-partition my SD card to remove it.

1. Backup with TB
2. Repartition
3. Update to EXT4
4. Restore with TB
5. Do the steps for perm recovery

That look about right ??

Procedure is super easy. So easy it will make your head spin.

Download unrevoked and make sure you have installed the hboot driver (to do this one time only bit start phone in hboot mode (vol down + power) and connect it up to USB and point Windows to the HBOOT driver folder that comes with unrevoked, follow driver instructions that come with it too if any issues).

2:
Download the R4 .img file linked in above thread

3:
Run unrevoked (phone should not be plugged in)

4:
Click file and customs elect the R4 .img file

5:
Plug in phone and let it do its thing.

Now when you want to do a backup or flash a new ROM or restore your backup just vol down + power at boot and choose recovery!

Anyone have the R4 file uploaded elsewhere as the RS link is not working now as its not a premium account :(

Going to give a stock android OS another go... OD2.0 or DeFrost... what do you recommend ??

eh up folks, I've had a read back through but hell thi thread has gotten fat since I last read through it.

I've been holding off upgrading my Desire until HTC released something but from what I can tell that could be forever.

I kinda like HTC's sense so what is a good 2.2 release to go for, is there one thats head and shoulders over the others ?

Cheers.

My phone's weather widget now refuses to tell me the name of my location when I'm at home, and random other places. It just says "United Kingdom" instead. Any ideas?

Yes, all the location aware settings are turned on.

I use it for froyo, to over clock and to enable me to connect a wiimote.

Have you tried launcher pro and the cm6 theme as it looks and functions far better than sense.

Anyone had an issue losing their 3g whilst upgrading to Defrost 2.0g? I was on 1.8 previously, and upgraded with the ROM manager selecting Radio upgrade and 998Mhz kernel, but now I can only get data via wireless. Any ideas?
