How did some people cope with there new bundle of joy?

If you want a decent travel system for a sensible price look at Babyjogger stuff.

Well built, well presented but no scene tax.

Also pretty unecessary. We did the whole "travel system" and ended up using it only for a few weeks as they tend to be a bit on the cumbersome side. In the end we used a £20 lightweight folding pushchair much, much more.

Yeah we've pretty much done this now. We don't ever use our iCandy Cherry now - he's too big for the carrycot and it's much easier to use a dedicated lighter pushchair.

Although I guess we did use it for about 6 months, it was useful at first putting the Maxi Cosi car seat into the frame. I certainly wouldn't have paid full price for everything though (would have been a similar price to the £650 spent on the Quinny above).

Next cost for me is a new car seat, he's rapidly getting too big for the Cabriofix.

I fairly impressed with the Quinny. Was lightweight and collapsed into a small package with one click. My other half is a bit of a snob when it comes to this stuff so when I jokingly pointed out the £50 lightweight one in mothercare I got a small slap.

Its her first so she can have it. If I was newly born and aware of whats on offer I would be definitely be choosing that the Quinny to be pushed about in!

Thinking about it I would presume this is revenge for all the times I insisted on the extra 10" for the plasma or the slightly higher spec pc...

Oh I have absolutely no illusion that I would change anyone's mind. Quite a few friends have done the whole "having kids" thing and it goes the same way. Pretty much all of them eventually regretted wasting the cash on an expensive pushchair affair. Just the way of things it seems. You don't really buy the likes of the Quinny for the kid anyway, the only reason to spend that much is image.

that is very true, however you wouldn't want something that would last 5 minutes. i think the main one is do you still get reliability and durability out of £650 for a push chair.

Which is great, except you won't be using it after 6-12 months.

I have a boy due in 4 weeks but unfortunately my missus insists on everything being brand new.

It is a fad that passes, by the time my first got to 6 months, then then wife was trawling ebay for bags of 2nd hand clothes etc. By the time the 2nd baby came along it was either 2nd hand because we had kept it from the first or 2nd hand off the bay/friends; even the car seat as the first moved to a booster seat

You're thinking of 'Quim' you silly child :p

Haha, told.

Anyway the energy and effort to try and change her mind is not worth it. £650 is for the push chair, Pram carrier thing, Maxi cosi chair seat, base for the ford focus and some other extras.

I have always enjoyed having the best in tech and have annoyed her several times while stood in Richer Sounds choosing what looks best for my setup. Guess its time to let her have her day.

Just been told by fiance we have our 12 week scan on the 30th July. then we can breathe alittle easier. due to first MC she has to see the midwife every 2 weeks. did any of your partner get wierd cravings?

The Maxi Cosi base is something else I'd not bother with if I was doing it all again (I have the ISOfix cabriofix one). It's dented the leather in one of our cars and to be honest it's not really that much more convenient when you consider it only takes about 10 seconds to just use a seatbelt instead. It's also pretty unweildy if you want to use that seat for an adult passenger. However I think they do one now which allows you to use Maxi Cosi seats designed for older kids but that wasn't available when I got mine.

To be honest I am a bit mis guided on all this as she is sorting it all out. As far as I am aware we had to get this maxi cosi with the base as its the only one that fits in the new Ford Focus. We had another one on order but it didn't fit when we went to try it.

I'll just go with whatever she decides as it saves me doing all the research etc.

Lots of useful information here though, going to take a look and see if she has gone the wrong route.

I do like the pushchair, great handling!

/edit Thanks for the links^^ So the pushchair is £315 at Babies r us, its the other bits adding up. The Pram addon her mums really wants for some reason.

You got all this come Dave!

Baz, can you ask her the rethink about the Quinny pram attachment? It'll just save you money. Basically, when your baby arrives, it'll be in the car seat lying practically flat on the pushchair frame. Then when he/she is older they'll be in the seat that comes with the base when you buy it.

I think, given you get the Maxi-Cosi adapters free any way, you'd be better off not buying the Quinny pram add-on and put that cash towards something else.

I'll have a word tonight, see what she thinks. She said it was due to her mum wanting to take him out straight away in it. The woman at mothercare said the quinny standard seat is suitable straight away. I just nod to whatever, saves me hassle.

Thanks for the heads up, glad I spotted this thread.
