How did some people cope with there new bundle of joy?

that is very true, however you wouldn't want something that would last 5 minutes. i think the main one is do you still get reliability and durability out of £650 for a push chair.

No more than one that will cost you £150 to be honest. The amount of time you use it for. And as I said, as soon as the baby can sit up we found one of the cheap folding ones much, much more useful.

If finances are tight don't waste your money on anything bar the essentials. Don't spend a fortune on clothes either, they grow so fast it really isn't worth the effort. Also don't buy all that much in advance as you have no idea what size the child will be. Our daughter was really long and so was out of the newborn stuff in what seemed like days.

I don't mean to knock your advice but isn't half of what we are talking about part of the fun? There is going over the top but its the one time I will give into the whole marketing and let everyone in the family go wild. We have already ended up with a wardrobe full of clothes but then again family will just not listen.

I even found myself looking at Nike air dunks today to match my own, how sad!

By the way the stupid expensive Quinny does quickly fold away and isn't cumbersome at all.

Can't believe I am now getting into this.

sorry to hear that you had 2 x MC must have been a traumatic experience for you both, just try and comfort your partner and talk to each other.

Yeah we comfort eachother anyway and know its not the end of the world and can have the fun of trying again :D

Seriously, who cares, quit being such a uselessly anal-retentive douche.

Dave, on the money side of things, you should do what most of my family did, they typically got all their baby things off ebay - it's much better value for your money, and you can flog it back on there once lil Dave's grown out of them :)

One of them once said to me - there is never a time when you can 'afford' a baby, and if one comes, there's always a way to jump the hurdles as they come.

there's absolutely no point in buying a new travel system.

we're expecting in September and the Gf found an absolute bargain on the bay of e - a 6 month old mothercare Xcursion + car seat. £125!

virtually everything we've bought has been second hand, other than bibs and dummys ect. No reason at all to buy most stuff new :)

Let me say congratulations Dave, you sound like a very happy boy! :)

My friend when carrying would eat pint glass after pint glass of ice. And started eating meat, when she was previously a vegetarian before hand!

When the guy is already complaining about money being tight then spending £650 on a pushchair you will use for a couple of months goes from being "part of the fun" to "pretty stupid".

Which is fine, but realise that you aren't doing it for the kid you are doing it for yourselves, and if you have the spare cash, it isn't a problem. If you don't have the spare cash, well a roof over the kids head and an ample supply of nappies is going to be much more important than a pair of Nike Air they will wear for a fortnight.

Not to mention once the kid arrives you probably won't really have time to worry about if your shoes match. :)

As I said, I know full well I am not going to convince anyone. Been down this road several times now. :D

Very harsh attitude, just noticed that comment. Don't think nature cares for budgets.
I guess this comment explains why there are thousands of children in this country enjoying maybe loving, but otherwise starved upbringings.

While I am in no way passing comment against the OP in this case, I also suspect the number of marriage and family breakdowns caused by financial stress exacerbated by the cost of raising children is very high.

Dont waste any money on a poncy sling, we did and never used it, although the carrier my cousin gave us was brilliant, saved loads of hassle when we went to london and were on the tube. Same with going shopping lot less hassle than a pram.

Dont bother with a bottle warmer, use the kettle and something to hold the water and the bottle. When your baby gets a little older get a bumbo seat, another brilliant device.

Keep an eye on freecycle too sometimes you can get some good freebies on that.

Wasn't specifically talking about the OP, if you can afford it fair enough. Wouldn't ever be borrowing to satisfy her baby kit needs.

Anyway enough from me, off to enjoy shopping for something other than electrical goods for once.

True but I am talking from my experience and somewhat dave's topic. Going to go off topic if we starting talking about the next episode of Jeremy Kyle :D

Keep an eye on hotukdeals for some decent baby stuff, I got a chair about half price from there.

Other things I'm really happy with purchasing are a baby walker (30 quid from Mothercare) and also a baby bouncer. But these are obviously for slightly older babies.

I'm thinking of having kids in the near future and am in the same bucket as you really, currently renting a (small) flat for £515 and not sure if I'll be able to afford a bigger place AND a kid.
