OcUK's plans for the future and new blood...

There is no over the top moderation in the MM, well not now:p The MM is a very hard place to mod, trust me I have been doing it for nearly a year but I love a challenge:)

In the past when somebody broke a simple rule, we would edit there post but a lot of the time they would not see the edit and break the rule again.:( But in the last couple of weeks we have introduced a MM infraction which will allow as to warn peeps and hopefully stop them eventually losing their MM access due to silly rule breaks.

As you quite rightly said the Rules are there for a reason to protect the sellers and buyers who use the MM, so read the rules and you will not get banned.;)

TC.

I have never got a warning in the members market. Made a very few simple errors and was banned. 1st I knew about it was when I tried to log in. I love the forum and I have bought and sold a fair bit through the MM aswell as the OCUK shop but this kind of thing really ticked me off.

Well I have some basic suggestions.

Generally the forum structure is good, but I feel a first step would be to take each forum in turn and update the stickies. If this involves removing old ones entire then do so, if it involves completey new articles being written by a forum section lead then make them do so. Illustrate everything with nice how to pictures.

For example, under networking, one could have a sticky on the basics of setting up a home network, or better still a network with something like windows home server. This would obviously need updated when Vail launches, but even so, that could see an increase in sales from folks who would read of the benefits, and decide purchasing the equipment is for them.

Similar in tv and audio thread where HTPC use, setup in both windows and linux could be step by step explained.

Each week/month when one of these is updated you could key the article launch with a weekly offer on certain goods used within the build.

Basic OCing advise could be updated.

Currently stickies are kept low in most forums, this is good, and certainly the way to keep it.

I think you could consider some form of your own picture hosting, for threads outside of GD, this would allow longterm if not permanent retention of buildlogs which people provide and additionally hosting for the pictured 'how-to' threads. I think GD picture hosting should stay as it is, else bandwidth issues may be extreme.

Just a few thoughts, will post back later if any more lightbulbs switch on.

I signed up on the forum when I got my Q6600 as there was overclocking threads for my mainboard, they don't seem so popular anymore.

The forum is mostly filled with spec me threads and depressing muslim/christianity propoganda in General Discussion.

matthew you hot dude, you should relax and enjoy the forums a bit more, the majority of members don't care about your sexuality.

I think OcUK has really lost it's way with the technical side. Maybe it's just me but I don't really see any crazy system builds or mega overclocks anymore, that was why I signed up.

Now it's like a Jeremy Kyle forum, especially in GD and speakers corner.

Welcome back!

Changes sound good.

All I want from forum moderating is a level of fairness and consitency. Bans for certain actions or inflicted on some and not others (or at least seem to be) and at the same time different mods have different levels of tolerance. Example is swearies, I have been banned for swearing even when fully starring out words yet others have put in a single star or nothing at all and escaped a ban. Consistency people! :p

All in all though this a great forum to be a part of so keep up all the good work guys and let us all continue to use and enjoy OcUK for now and the future :)

I have no idea how the bans work or why or even how many times i've been banned. Therefore since I did something to get banned for but don't actually know what it was the ban was a waste of time and I haven't learned any lesson from it. Perhaps the ability to know why you were banned or even if you have been banned would be helpful and constructive.

Overclocking was never going to last - the days of a 3GHz stable overclock are long gone, these days even the cheap processors can get 4GHz without too much effort so the overclocking winwall isn't such a great thing any more.

There needs to be an alternative, most nicest build? most unique case design or something...

Depressing but true :(

I'm the only gay in the village?;):D

On a serious note, I think that for MM, there should be a standard form which every seller sticks to without deviation. There should be no posting in the threads other than by the seller (stops trashing and other nonsense) and a valid e-mail should be there in trust for questions. The seller then can update once only with pictures and only after 24 hours, they can also update with any offers they have received.

As for consistency with moderating decisions, I think a lot of people "get away with it" is because they have said what the moderator is thinking and sometimes a poster being taken down a peg or two is good for them. I know, I've posted some things that I felt guilty about later and also posted some things which I felt were justified. To that end, I think that pm should be allowed but only from moderators to let people know that they have been naughty, so they can avoid a ban.

I think also that there should be a "core" of mods who are permanent fixtures unless they step down or get sacked and that there should be a few "seconded" mods given a trial for say a month or two to see how they get on and the things involved in doing the job. It would change peoples opinions if they can see it from both sides of the coin.

Oh yeah, and also, can we see more videos and blogs of extreme builds being done? It may be good to have a "meet the team" interview every so often, where key players give a short two minute presentation on the direction of ocuk, new products, that sort of thing.

on the subject of RTMs does anyone else want to do it ( like when you know someone is trolling or personal attacks etc) but avoid doing it as it feels weird?

And often quite hypocritical in my case :o >.>
