**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

added my name to the spreadsheet in a few post above, take it easy though i've always like rts games but i've never been brilliant at them. on a side note loving the campaign so far, far outstrips any other rts game i think just in the way it's presented to you.

Anyone with a spare guest pass whos feeling kind enough to pm me one? THe wait for my copy is killing me!!! If you want I could return one of my guest passes once I get my copy too.

NickG - regarding the COH vs SC2 argument. This response is meant as a humorous friendly 'down the pub with a pint' discussion .. not an argument or anything .. please read as such ..

I think the bottom line is that we are comparing oranges to apples with COH vs SC2. There should be another category of game invented called 'Speed RTS'. This game offers a 15 minute blast, just a very small spoonful of fun.

That fills a gap for me -- and I LOVE COH absolutely love it. Just being able to think occassionaly 'Its 7:10 and at 7:30 my TV show starts, I can have a pop at SC2'. You could never do that with COH it was always 1 hour plus unless you're playing a noob. 1 hour plus is a proper commitment. SC2 yes can be just a laugh and is more speed gaming, but theres nothing wrong with that.

Also COH is actually only just below SC2 on 'hardcore' scale. It's actually, believe it or not, quite an arcadey game considering whats out there in RTS land ..

i agree with some of the sntiment here. yes SC2 = speed rts.

i have played other great RTS such as Close COmbat (i have 3 through 5 and COI) which is a more realistic COh basically - but the balance COH brings in terms of tiering strategy A =/ B {circumstance Y} = CHAOS, speed and tactics/micro/macro etc just seems a more complete package.

i guess once you have used cover, and flanking tactics etc it must be wieird to just headlong charge ito things where the terrain really does not matter, all that matters is your unit mix and relative position, as opposed to getting the unit mix, position and tactics employed like COH forces you to do...

sporry for derailing the thread i know a lot of ppl like SC. i hope some korean piospammers from COH can now finally go and self actualise on SC2 instead.

the game of SC2 i watched was:

Starcraft 2 Beta KHB (P) vs Artosis (T) Mothership Rush

I only pay sub £25 for PC games. I'll pick this up in a few months/next year.

Seems like a red Alert4 kinda game anyway.

Its not. Its definately worth £35.

Kreeeee, maybe it is dull but its still good fun. Sorry for not sending units your way to help, I was on the other side of the map and was sending a couple over with a void ray but it was too late by then.

Maybe get a few 2 vs 2 ocuk games going instead?

LOL you watched a joke game from the first month of beta. You could not have possibly picked a worse game than that. Seriously, nobody mothership rushes. Ever. The game has had 17 balance patches since then and is a completely different game.

Would anyone care to explain what these mean .. ie. build orders.

Did anyone here buy any of the Starcraft 2 peripherals?

I was in desperate need of a mousepad (the area where I've been using it on the wood of my desk is completely rough now) so I bought the Steelseries QcK Kerrigan vs Zeratul one.

Numbers = food count. When you have 13 food, make your spawning pool, etc. I'm not sure about that build though, you'll have to ask Indie or Krono or any other Zerg players if that's an effective build and what it's actually for. I know quick gas builds are good for 1 base roach and baneling all ins. But that's about all I know.

I was mighty tempted by the mousepads - still am actually. Annoyingly, I don't need one and mine has hardly been used. Is that actual steel? It looks real good.

I just foud it on the teamliquid wiki as a example. It's an expand build apparently. What do you mean food though. The drones/machines that havest it?
