Taking a risk with a website.........

People pay for porn these days?

I don't think i have ever paid for porn. And these new streaming sites that have popped up in the last year or two means that even my porn folder on my PC is pretty much redundant. It's been months since i last looked at it

Well she has provided stats for it.

Getting 120,000 visits a month with 800,000 page views. Average time on site 5 minutes with 70% new visitors.

P.s I was thinking of going along the lines of free material, but obviously need to plan it carefully as heavy video streaming would mean higher server costs...

Was thinking of using the free model and hoping like hell that people would click the adverts lol.

Be careful what videos you put on there. Surely porn has a copyright of some sort?

Yes, but I can only think of a couple of cases where it's been pursued. One was some porn producer complaining about Google indexing their pics on a third party freeloader site, which is the usual silly trick of suing someone big and missing the point. I think there was another case involving Playboy.

The porn producers know a lot of people won't pay, but there are also a hell of a lot of people who do pay, so they don't really care. Some producers are thought to deliberately leak samples of their material with a view to enticing paying customers.

Straw poll... How many of us ever click on adverts? Seriously, good luck with that. As for a subscription model, that's when you do start to risk trouble if you're using other people's content.

Very true.

I'm sure I can work on getting the site popular, but how to generate revenue is a real bugger.

I know of people who pull 4 figures of revenue from Google AdWords.

I worked with someone who got 4 figure cheques for gambling site referrals via adverts. I know another person who in a partnership spent 4 figures WEEKLY on Google AdWord bids they got that many hits/referrals.

You need to know what you are doing and generate traffic, not something you can just slap ads on and sit waiting for income.

If you are going for the free model, self supplied content ala YouTube then you might have problems. There are already very popular established sites doing this and taking them on is more than just having a memorable domain name.

Could you take on YouTube? Might not be as big a task but it amounts to almost the same thing in his sector of the market. Nobody wants to jump ship from a populated, content filled and heavily updated site to one which is a startup unless you have SOMETHING there worth moving for. Either you need some niche content (You will not get it free) or a feature/selling point which as far as I have seen is very much covered by existing sites.

Some of these adult YouTube like sites have features better than YouTube for example.

Not sure I have enough cash to be hiring in "workers" lol. Surely they would be several thousand for each session......not to mention that i'm no performer, so would have to hire in someone else haha.

im sure its 250 - 500 to hire people to nob on camera, however you need a good video camera, camera man, location and video editing... time and money...

It's worth it just for the title of 'Porn Baron' IMO.

:/ no thank you. Just in it for the money thank you.

Well, if I could use Google adsense I would be a happy chappy, but Google dosen't deal with adult content: surest way to get banned.

Unless I monetise the site by other means than adult content...

User generated content...

Thats a good idea, but it would be hard to get people to make their own stuff....unless you mean people upload whatever content they want?

:/

Bit hands on for me. I would **** it up in no time.

Hah, you need to understand and breathe your market if you want to make money. You will need to get your hands dirty. ;)

I know of 2 MAJOR sites doing what I think you want to be doing and I am almost sure they are owned or at least run by the same people, lots of crossover.

If you are unaware of them Trust me and I will link you.

In my opinion people pay subs for all/any of the following reasons:

- Convenience and ease of access
- Niche content
- High quality substance
- Ignorance to alternate "free" sources

Not the best stats but at least something to work on.
