Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Its backs up to internal card you need to be rooted , but thats easy enough just go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728754 and will take you 5 mins.

Then just install rommanager and click on install clockwork manager and then back up. Flash new rom , if you don't like it just get chuck your backup on.

Sounds a lot more complicated then it is. Really simple none of this goldcard making business ;)

Yo guys, odd problem... My brothers just got this phone and is having a problem connecting to the internet when not connected to a wifi connection. but the only difference is his phone never has the little H and up and down arrow at the top of the screen which mine does when im using the internet. He's with o2 if that helps! Anyone got any ideas?

Turns out I'm running JF3 already.

Is JM2 any better than JF5?

I've flashed to JF5 as I need a stable phone. I've read of some problems with JM2 relating to battery use, gps and market place.

JF5 has sorted out the lag problems I was having without doing the SD card fix, which is nice as I haven't brought myself a card for it yet :)

Can anyone help me? I've got my music split between the internal memory and an 8GB card, and some times when i'm listening to music it stutters, like it's having difficulty reading the track from memory, then after a few seconds it plays fine.

Is this what the lag fix solves?

ive more or less got this phone but ive just thought about something.... has this phone got a led light indicator anywhere on the front? you know so i can tell if i have a message without touching the phone?

Well I installed rom manager, did backup... Not sure what to do next, looked at firmware on samsung files and not sure were to go, so many roms and the guide talks about using odin and keis?
Anyone with this phone bought sim free from 02 got any pointers on doing this with rom manager?

These two videos (2 parts) show how to flash/update firmware on your SGS pretty well

I managed to flash to JF5 after a wee bit of hassle. I'm now trying to get the two russian apps off the phone that are installed with it, but I'm having trouble as they're preloaded apps. I know you can remove them with Titanium Backup after installing busybox once you've rooted the phone but every time I try opening Titanium Backup it's just Force Closing.

It's a long shot but I figured I'd ask here before going onto xda or whatever. Anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this?

And another thing...I've noticed the lag is gone, but I also here you can implement a lag fix...is this worth doing?

try out this site for removing apps helped me out
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/297207/removal-of-apps-via-adb/

And the lag fix does help, however ive had bad experience with it, my SD card would randomly disconnect after 2 - 3 days each time and then i couldnt do anything till i got home and flashed it again happened twice then i gave up on it. But it might just be my sd card Ive had it for 2 years now.

I think that's going a bit further than I'm prepared to go. At the moment at least, anyway. It's only two apps and Launcher Pro lets me hide them anyway so it'll do until the update to 2.2.

In future if I'm gonna flash to another firmware I'll make sure I remove unwanted .apks in the zip before I do it.

Last night and this morning after turning the phone on and coming back to it an hour or so later it is warm to touch and the "H" download up/down arrows are on full blast. Battery has also dropped by 30% during that time.

Any way to find out what is accessing the internet? How do you view persistent apps that are running in the background?

Download the switchpro app, allows you to have a widget where you can turn on/off wifi/3G/bluetooth/syncing etc.

It's the bottom widget in this pic:

im still not happy with the keyboards, using the htc modded one at the moment.

really like the iphone keyboard, anything similar that auto completes like the iphone on the SGS?
