Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Not coming to the UK at this time. :D

didnt i read it was on the 4G network in the states so its no use to us in the UK anyway ?

also

tried my friends headphones she's using with her Ipod and they work fine, so the headphones samsung supplied with the phone dont work....with the phone lol.

quick question guys.

has anyone had problems using the headphones with the SGS ?. i tried to watch a video using them but i had either no sound when the headphones are in or i get just one channel like background noise but no voices ??. the videos play fine and the sound is fine without the headphones. ive made sure all volumes are up in settings etc.... but still no joy ? dodgy headphones or jack ??

*UPDATE*

Just tried my headphones in a friends ipod and they work fine, so dodgy jack socket....

has anyone taken apart their SGS yet ? i work with electronics and circuit boards everyday so im pretty handy with a soldering iron if it comes to that.

Check and see if the TV-Out option is enabled. If it is, then turn it off.

In terms of what has been said above, I actually returned mine for Wi-Fi signal strength issues which got bounced back to me as 'no fault found'

However both with my HD2 and the wife's Milestone Wi-Fi reception was far less flakey.

I could literally stand next to my router and be on 1 bar where as with the other 2 handsets I can stand at the bottom of my garden and have full strength.

The Samsung couldn't even find my network anywhere in my garden.

Simply could not live with it so I've sold it on but without that problem it would have been a superb handset.

Why not just get another one if you liked it so much?

It was obviously flawed or there was an issue with the router settings that rubbished the signal when connected to the phone.

Did you try it on other routers, and compare it with another Galaxy S?

JF5is the best fro the lag , the lag fix only works for a while. Froyo version that i'm running is fine with regards to lag , however calender and stock browser are a no no.

SO you need to put with dolphin HD browser and no calender ATM

Flashed to JF5 last night, huuuuge improvement over JF3.

How did you manage £15 a month out of interest? I'm with T-Mobile and need to change my G1

The Company I work for looks after the IT kit in t-mobile stores and the manager of one of the stores as a favour to me gave me friends and family 50% discount on any t-mobile contract :D One of the only worthwhile perks ive had with this job in 6 years though lol

Cheers,
Hugest

Well worth it a lot faster no lag issues gps is better. Phone is just generally quicker. Back up current Rom up with Rom manager if your not 100% certain

It was refused replacement / repair under warranty so I presumed it was common to all handsets and past that what was I to do?

Certainly wasn't going to shell out for another sim-free handset and then have the same problem.

And after looking at various comments not only here but other forums etc, I'm not the only person with the issue.

Again it was the only problem I had, but one I could not live with.

Its all worked for the better now though anyway as I swapped my HD2 for my wifes Milestone, rooted it and overclocked it to 1200mhz.

If I'd really explored the Milestone before I'd never have got the Galaxy as I do really like it now I've rooted it and it should keep me occupied till I get bored of it.

Screen pales in comparison to the Galaxy though it must be said.

I was advised to put the wifi into never sleep mode and so far it hasn't dropped whilst the phone is in sleep mode and you wake it up. The signal is a bit poor I'd agree on that one though.

GPS is flakey and when usign the google navigation seems to go up and down in signal strength but that could be cause I was hand holding it at the time. The phone appears to act like the iPhone 4 in that the signal slowly decreases to zero if I hold it at the bottom! Really weird.

A guy at work is an android nut and has been customising the phone today and the experience is a lot better that I was having yesterday. So far the updates from the stock are:

1. Flashed to the latest 2.1 firmware from samsung-firmwares which has fixed a few niggles. May go to the test 2.2 later in the week when the next build comes out.

2. Launcherpro and smspopup are better than stock in my opinion. Not much of a fan of the touchwiz stuff!

3. Beautiful gadgets has spruced up the look a lot.

I'm swayed towards keeping the phone now as the 2.2 should fix a lot of the remaining issues I have. Just missing the selective cut/paste from the Gmail app and SMS app now. SMS you can cut the whole message but not parts of it :( Gmail app you can't select any text? Maybe in the mail app you can, but the built in gmail app you can't until 2.2 from what I have been told.

The GPS is flakey, but I don't use it that often to be honest and for getting a position fix it's fine. It's definitely a steep learning curve with Android but I am starting to see what is possible with it now. I'd go get a Nexus One, but I'd miss the video player of the Samsung!

Isn't JM2 the latest one on 2.1? Do you find JF5 better than JM2?

Well I finally got my 2.2 to work just fine, after flashing it like 10 times, it even got rid of the problem with the extrnal sd card being read only and flash works just fine, althought it makes the browser laggy and phone at times becomes unrespensive.

How does Rom Manager work? Does it simply create a file that contains a complete backup of your existing system and software and settings, therefore, If I use Rom Manager to backup now, then flash to a new firmware, If I dont like it I can flash the Rom Manager backup and thus restore my phone to how it is now, with all my settings/apps and widgets??
Does it create said file on the external SD card or do you have to connect to a PC?

There are so many guides and how too's ... it gets confusing :(

What he said.

rom manager backs up the ext3 partition on your sd card too.

you can see this as well while backing up, it goes through all your apps (internal and on SD)

But the Galaxy S has both an internal and External SD card, does it backup Both or just the Internal?

cheers for the answers... :)

well, i assume the internal is just the same as on my desire, just more space.

double check on xda to be safe, you'll get an answer sharpish i'd imagine from someone that's rooted.

10-1 it backs it all up though
