***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Of course people might think it's boring so far the BETA is located in 1 city, 1 small outside area, 1 set of quests with a 2 day recycle timer, 1 mission story that requires you to lvl up to progress. If you were online for even a good chunk of the 22 hour beta windows you would have just spent the whole time wandering and grinding. Or least thats all i've done.

But as said above it's still fun due to the great combat system and the crafting/mining system actually having some kind of interaction. I enjoyed what i've got to play so far, just going to avoid limsa lominsa on the main release because im tired of the surroundings!

How many MMO's have you played? Because that's a strong statement.
Well so far its: Everquest, Everyquest 2, Star Wars Galaxies (pre-cu and after it,) World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, Lord of the Rings... hmm I'm sure I've tried others aswell.

The reason I love the combat so much in FFXIV is because it plays very much like a single-player RPG game. It allows you to level different classes and take certain abilities from each and combine them into one class, ultimately allowing you to play the game in your own unique way.

Its very interactive and a complete 180 from its predecessor. The only problem is its almost impossible to chat while fighting now. However I believe they're aware of that and are working on something.

I know I seem overly enthusiastic about the game in this thread, but I would honestly come out and say whether the game deserves the crap its been getting here. But it simply doesn't, I am genuinely loving this beta. If they iron out the bugs and a few gameplay problems then this will be an amazing MMO.

when does phase 2 start? August 1st?

I'm guessing a whole lot more invites are going to be sent out?
Sorry I didn't mention above. Phase 2 is tomorrow at 3am BST, its generally just a move from fixed server times to constant 24/7 servers.

My personal estimations on when we'll see more invites sent out is; late August. Possibly to coincide with the beta increasing to a larger area of the game, as at the moment, its only limited to one city and its surrounding areas. Its already quite packed at peak times, so increasing the player base by thousands wouldn't make sense if they didn't open up more of the game to test.

Does anyone know of any beta key give aways for the UK?

I have seen that some fan sites have been given Beta keys for their members but they are all NA only...

Oh never mind (grins to herself)

Anyone knows where i could get my hands on betakeys?I tried through EVERY german gamewebsite that had them,i tried through the official website but no luck yet.And i'm stoked on trying this game :D

I would like to get a beta key also. I've already pre ordered this on what I've heard online so far.

Charater customisation seems really in depth also, which is appealing to me.

I'm pretty interested in this one but a little confused (coming from an ex WOW player).

I've been watching some streams of the Beta and have a few questions :

1) Are there party/raid instances in this game. From what I've seen it looks more of a single player game if that makes sence2) Do you get a mount at later levels? from what I've seen so far it running everywhere
3) Are there player guilds
4) Is there a class like a Hunter where you get a pet (I'm guessing not)

Sorry for the daft questions, this game has only just caught my attention.

OK, I'll take a punt at these :)

We don't know. SE have revealed nothing about the end game so far and the beta is limited to one of the starting areas and a maximum level of 30. However, judging by the extensive end game stuff available in FFXI is would be a reasonable assumption that they will exist at some point.

2) Do you get a mount at later levels? from what I've seen so far it running everywhere

Yes, although they are not available in the beta. It has been stated (although I am currently unable to find a link) there will be various forms of transport including, but not limited to, mounts.

Edit: Found it.

DP: Other than Aetherite, will there be other modes of transportation, like airships and chocobo?
KI: Of course.

DP: Will adventurers be able to use them?
KI: Yes. For how long and how much experience is needed to use them is still a secret. Chocobo, horse-drawn carriages, ships, and airships will all be in the game.

3) Are there player guilds

Yes, although we don't know the details. There will be Linkshells, which in FFXI was a form of social interaction rather than a guild as such, and companies, and you now know as much about those as everyone else :D.

4) Is there a class like a Hunter where you get a pet (I'm guessing not)

No, none of the revealed classes have any kind of pet. The future: who knows?

Sorry for the daft questions, this game has only just caught my attention.

Don't worry, there are no daft questions, only daft answers. Although I have a warning: don't expect this to be anything like WoW, if your only MMO experience is WoW then you are going to be in for a shock.

@ Jase

I would also have a look at the game requirements and download the benchmark and give it a whirl.

If you havent upgraded since playing WOW for a good amount of time, you may need to.

Just to let you know, Phase 2 of the beta ended early hours this morning. We threw a farewell party to our characters last night (as they're being purged.) /sniff

Phase 3 starts mid August. They haven't given a specific day or mentioned specifically in the update that there will be more beta invites.

Apparently they're going to be changing lots of things, including things mentioned in the beta forum feedback thread.

New classes, quests, adjustments to the battle system, partying, how experience is gained etc. is all going to be made available. We dont know if we'll see anymore of the game environment (i.e. new cities etc)

So we can only sit back and wait. Keep an eye on your email inbox as you may be getting an invite soon :)

I have decided to try take out my frustration on the zombies in RE5 on my PS3. I love collecting trophies so I am gonna enlist my brother as I can't play on Hard mode. Hehe...

Thanks for the Info AndrewN. WOW was my first MMO and the only one I really played properly. I realise FF will be a lot different to WOW but I really like the end game content doing instances and raids so I'd probably be a little disappointed if there wasn't any in FF.

Is it normal to know so little about the game with a release in September ?

Celebryn: thanks also for the tip. I did a complete PC upgrade just a little while ago so I hope I'd be OK as I'm using an an ATI 5970.
