Ireland is not a better player than Milner.....he was given numerous chances last year in his favoured position and didnt take them, played in pre season and didnt do anything....he had one good season 08-09 so i think its a bit unfair to say hes better than Milner who has good last year, decent year before? showed promise at Newcastle.
He's only had two real seasons, the first one, firstly City weren't good, he played in around 13 games worth of time(less than this season marginally) he was essentially a sub. His second season, 4 goals, 4 assists, again in a pretty poor team, then he had a truly superb "break out" season got 9 goals, 10 assist and was one of if not the best player in the team. Last season he got some mysterious illness and was mostly not involved in the forst 4 months of the season, they never really elaborated but he passed out and ended up in hospital, he then really never got a chance to get back in the team. However I saw him come on in several games, almost every time the team improved a lot, and almost every time he was one of the best players on the pitch.
He is a better player than Milner, Milner's a workhorse, thats about it, he can put in a decent cross every now and then, and lots of bad crosses. He doesn't have the passing ability, doesn't see the kind of through ball Ireland can, doesn't have a 1/10th of the vision Ireland has. Milner has played a LOT of games every year and has been thoroughly average, nothing more or less and has been overhyped because he's English.
Unless Ireland had an incredibly poor preseason if he was left out like Bellamy was(I don't have a clue if he was or wasn't) then he should do very well at Villa. If not it might take him a while to establish himself and get fitness but I can see Ireland working incredibly well with guys like Ashley Young, Gabby and Carew making runs infront of him.
I can't believe Nasri is out for a month already. Hopefully Fabregas is back and moves back into his position. I am sure there is something in the water that makes our players have brittle bones or something
Oh well, its almost like playing as many minutes as possible in preseason, sending him off to play for france, then starting a shattered Nasri in the first game was a bad idea. Nasri looked beyond dead in the first game, his game was off, he wasn't moving that much and just looked drained. Assuming everyone knew he was off for French duty, he should have had a quieter last week or two before the international.
He's not a particularly fit player, he's never been a run all day type and he's not got pace and we ran him absolutely ragged throughout preseason. But Wenger does this, when he finds a player in form he'll play them hard till they get injured even if every other manager in the world would rest a few players, taking into account internationals coming up and the fitness of a player in general.
