I admire Levy's business sense to keep the clubs head above water but there has to come a point were you need to invest to progress. Our current CFs just aren't up for the job to take us to the next stage in our progress.
Aren't spurs clearly the 2nd highest spender in the premier league in the last 3-4 years, meaning, they clearly are investing.
How much did Pav cost, what about Defoe, Crouch, Keane, Santos was another 5 mil, Modric, Krancjar(good deal, but probably highish wages which adds up).
A couple years ago people were saying Defoe is brilliant, Crouch is a good option, Keane is great, etc, etc. Suddenly they're all crap because they are going through a dry spell. Firstly all strikers go through one, would Rooney be good enough for Spurs, if so, hasn't Defoe scored much more recently than Rooney, he scored in the world cup, isn't Rooney well over 1000minutes without a goal and having looked pretty god damned awful in that time aswell?
What if Spurs get Fabianno, he scores well for a year, then goes through a dry spell, suddenly its time for Levy to break the bank and sign another in form striker?
LEvy doesn't want to end up with 3-4 extra players for Champs league football, all higher quality, on wages above the usual structure only to find themselves stuck with 4 expensive players for 4-5 years, no champs league, losing money every year and the other 25 players getting upset at their "low" wages compared to the new guys.
What happens when Fabianno has a crappy season and Defoe scores 20 to his 10, and Defoe wonders why he's on 50k a week and FAb is on 90k a week, it quickly spirals out of control and Spurs end up the next Leeds.
Spurs might get champs league football for another season, they should get into the group stages this season, long term, they won't be top 4 competitive long term without a bigger stadium to be stable with a larger more expensive squad.
City might get it right this season, they might not, honestly with that much cash they'll eventually hit on the right combo of manager/players, its not if, but when.
Look at other teams that spent beyond their means trying to desparately hang on to champs league football, Newcastle, Leeds.......... Levy's doing a very good job at Spurs, though I reckon they could quite easily get rid of a bit of the rubbish and bring in couple better players instead.
