Road Rage.................

Doing it quickly (and without brake lights!) is just going to result in them rear-ending you at some point. I'd rather avoid this, and I'd rather they know my "tactics".

oh its not a fast de-acceleration, nice and slow decrease of speed, seems to increase anger levels nicely

if I get rear ended it will be more costly than hitting a normal car!

This has been doing the rounds of several forums....

Has anyone actually seen a news story that confirms it? I know it seems an odd thing to troll a forum with, but don't you think something as significant (and cause for Daily Mail hand wringing) would be on the news somewhere?

e: I should probably read the whole thread here.

So members of the public can confirm someone to be dead now, when did that come into power?

I have grown up a lot in driving, I would never ever road rage with a child in my car, its hard to just go "ok he cut me up, forget about and chill out" but its the best option and I just tell myself, he cant drive and its not the first time or the last time you will encounter a **** on the road.

I hate to be crass, but its a trivial task to establish whether someone's heart is beating or not.

but is it an easy one ?

A child in a car seat in a car crash, on the side of the car that has crashed into the tree cant exactly be easily accessible can it ?

He doesnt state how he knew the child was dead, how long did he try and find a pulse for ? how did he know that he couldnt find a pulse because he didnt know how to, or was to distressed to, rather than her not having one.

With the emotional and physical distress he just witnessed, not many would calmly be able to make their way to the child calmly and still be in the right frame of mind to know how to properly find a pulse.

Given the wording of his post, he does imply he knew it merely be looking as well !

It does read very strange.

If it's not true it could be and is a reminder that life's too short.

Also a reminder to get better tyres and get your brakes checked out regularly, not just when they fail an mot.

I suppose if the childs head was on the floor and the body was still in the car that would allow for his instant diagnosis

I'm still calling BS, just re-read the part about them being on a dual carrriage way and the truck instantly blocking them in whilst watching the whole incident in his mirror....

Won, medically trained as well now? Is there no end to your talents?

Often a simple check for a heart beat is not enough for people like us to be sure someone is dead.

I read this earlier and did a search for news around the Hampshire area as another member there claims to have gone there after the incident as he is a copper, who, if his location is correct, is from Waterlooville. Couldn't find anything on the local news sites about this, which does seem rather strange.

EDIT: Scratch that, turns out the copper wasn't involved, just happened to mention that he had been to similar incidents. So I now have know idea where this accident happened.

If someone's heart isn't beating, you can usually be pretty sure they are dead. I'm a trained first aider from previous jobs, as are many people, but even my other half knows how to find her pulse, as I'm sure most people do.

Next stupid comment?

If I remember back to my 5 day first aid training they have stopped teaching people to find out if a heart is beating, more important breathing, if they are breathing the heart is pumping and if they are not breathing start respiration and chest compressions.

I think they found people got to carried away with trying to find a pulse and a faint pulse is very difficult to find

yes but could you climb through a wrecked car looking at what appears to be a dead child to do it ? most probably next to a screaming mother looking at her apparently dead daughter, dodging blood, broken glass and mangled bits of car and tree.

Not many could thats for sure.

I was taught that doing chest compressions on still beating heart can be dangerous and finish them off for good :).

You really are an idiot, I didnt say anything about someone being able to tell if someone is alive, I said to confirm someone is dead, what would happen if this guy started shouting out "OK THE CHILD IS DEAD, No need for an ambulance to rush to the scene, we have one fatality and a minor crash" Its simply idiotic to do and say and he almost made someone kill themselves over his actions.

Its the law, you have no right to tell anyone someone is dead unless you are a doctor, not sure on a paramedic if they can.

As a trained first aider you'd know that it isnt your call, nor do you have the ability, to claim with certainty that somebody is deceased.

Assuming, of course that you are a trained first aider...

I wouldnt be suprised. The line between fantasy and reality in MikeHiow's world is now completely missing. He probably doesnt even know himself which of it is true and which isn't.
